Fancy Guppie Breeding!

Got three alge eaters today! They are the kind that only get 2" long, oone went into each tank, but two of them have part of their tail missing. Don't know what happened, but they seem fine other than that! One is cleaning the rocks already! You go baby!!!

I moved all the fish (babies) that are in mason jars over to where I can see them when I'm on the computer. And they are in a cubby hole thing so the cats can't knock them off. Love it!!!!!

Hi @Chairity, do you know any good web sites to order breeding pairs or trios off of? Preferably cheap... We found out that the breeder that @Petsmart goes through neuters the males, so I bacically wasted the last two months on trying to breed the different ones!!!!!

I am buying a "Blue Diamond" trio...

and my g-ma is buying one for me, but she is picking it out, she doesn't know what she wants yet.

how do they sterilize the males? thats so dumb!! i was planning on buying a few in a few weeksd too :p

there are a few sits for ordering guppies from, one of the best ive found is www.aquabid.com -if you use ebay at ll this site works just like that, breeders advertise there own guppies for sale, you can buy them right off or bid on them, they contact you for your info and vice versa.
ive order a few things like fish, plants, ect off there before without issue.

a few other places that sells guppies is www.petsolutions.com
and www.drsfostersmith.com i however do not know if they sterilize there fish and have never order from them, you could ask though.

Idk, my dad told me that they use tiny scissors to "snip" them. I don't know where he read it though. I know, I was SOOOO mad! Thanks! I saw drfostersmith before, but they are kind of expesive. I will look though! Here is one I found that is great i think:

They have some pairs for $10 and some trios for $13! I am getting a blue diamond trio from them. Tomorrow I am going to order them. My g-ma still doens't know what kind she wants for "her fish". But I hope she chooses before I start ordering. I'm thinking of getting three trios. (for now) Then my dad is buying me another tank once we move! Then I could have maybe one more trio. I'm so excited!

Lola died last night. I went to flush her and thought "HOLD IT!!!" I got a safety pin and slit her belly open and poped about 18 babies out of her! They don't move, but since their bellies are big and and look like egg yolk, I am giving them till Feb. 16th before I flush them. I know it doesn't seem like they will live, but I don't wanna flash them when I don't know if they will. You know? I always think "What if they do? I would be killing them then!" lol, they are sooooo tiny! I will take pic.s tomorrow. I have them under a lamp right now and HOPEFULLY that will keep them as warm as they would be in their momma's belly.

LIVE BABIES LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i doubt they snip them- but you CAN sterilize them useing an intense UVA or UVB (cant recall which?) bulb on them for about a week.

Oooooh. Idk what he was talking about, I was thinking how they could snip something so tiny! Do you think the babies will live? I'm still going to keep them though.

I've been in fish for many yrs. and have not heard of neutering a fish (your dad was probably pulling your leg over the 'snipping" them comment), and the only sterilization I've heard of using UV is to rid tanks of free floating algae, harmful bacteria, viruses, etc. and to help control parasites.

I don't think he was pulling my leg, cause he had a migrane. But I kinda agree. One way or another, I think it's better that I get some pure breeding pairs. Thanks

@Chairity do you want any of the 16 babies? I don't have enough room and I want to make room for the new fish I'm going to order. I'm going to keep at least 2 or 3 of the 8 boys, but other than that, there are 24 up for grabs! I'm letting you get first dibs, since you have helped me out so much with info! Otherwise, I'm going to have to sell them.
