FANS in yer coops/runs?? Whos got em...........

I've got 1 fan blowing in at the entrance and 1 fan inside blowing out the rear vent. I shut the one off at the entrance in the late evening when they head inside for the night and lock them inside. The fan in the rear draws in fresh air from the side vents.

My Silkies get a fan, because they seem to have a harder time with heat than the others. For all the Not-Silkies (can you tell I prefer my silkies?!) I put out pans of water or misters.

I have one that I run in the winter to boost my venting

Other than that I rely on shade. But I live in northern Ontario. I know a woman who puts huge box fans in front of her chicken tractors if there's a heat snap and the birds are nearly market size.

This past week I put a fan in my baby coop they were so miserable

after all they are only 3 weeks old I have put frozen water bottles out there ,ice in the waters, all the doors open made some hardwire mesh screens for the doors all the windows open. Every sugesstion on here I have put in play for them . My juveniles are free ranging stay in the trees close to their coop their coop is shaded & gets no direct sun. But during the day their coop doors are open their windows are open for them as well I haven't seen my juvies doing any panting or stressing during this heat but the babies were miserable . their coop gets direct sun from 3 -6 . With the hottest part of summer yet to come I also just got a sun shade that is supposed to lower the temp some to go over the top of the coop & run for the babies.

So I think I will continue with the fans & anything else that might work.

I too have fans.. in both the grow out pen and the main coop.. I even have a small osolating fan that keeps the hens refreshed while they are in the nest boxes.

I have a box fan in the coop. The chicks hate it. On hot days I wet down the run and let a trickle flow down from the shade screen. They like the water dripping from the shade screen. If it's over 100 degrees I bring them in the basement where I have 2 xl dog kennels side by side(one wire and one plastic kennel). They usually stick to the wire kennel. I'm very grateful that I have air conditioning. I grew up without it and summers were miserable. I'm very sensitive to the heat and use to get heat exhaustion as a kid all the time.

I have outside my run and all my queens love it. When it starts getting warm they are bunched up inside waiting on the noisy thing to blow on them. When i first got it the the smaller ones would line up and spread their wings like they were flying, so cute.

I don't know if mine like the box fan in the coop or not - they seem to ignore it completely. But it does make it cooler in there!
