I had 15 baby chicks, all doing very well. 5 RIRs, 5 Buff orpingtons, 2 light brahmas, a Red Star, a silver laced Wyandotte, and a barred rock. On Wednesday, they were approaching 3 weeks old. One of the light brahmas suddenly became very lethargic and stopped eating. We called Farm and Fleet, who suggested to mix corn syrup with water and hand feed her. No luck. By Wednesday night, all the chicks were huddled around her, providing her with necessary heat. She still wouldn't eat or drink. My grandfather stayed up all night with her, until she passed away the next morning. She has been burried near the chicken coop so she can be with her sisters and hopefully grandchildren. Does anyone know why she died? I would like to prevent this from happening in the future.
