Farm chatter

also I came here to tell yall a story

Moonflower was on a nest of eggs because she demanded on staying broody & I locked her up in the brooder on her nest & like 3 days before the chicks hatched she was like trying to get out of the brooder, so I was like :confused:and let her out thinking she just wanted to run around before lockdown & that she would end up brooding in the nesting box and I'd just put her back on her nest then. Well, she never came back. Still hasnt.
Conveniently I had another broody hen so I candled the eggs and gave her the three that were still viable and she took them & then they hatched and I put mom & the two that hatched into the brooder.
Today I let them out of the brooder so they can be regular chickens & our PEAHEN decided, I guess, that these are her babies and started fighting the chicken hen. I ran the peahen off a couple times and then finally GRABBED her - she was between me and a tree, with the hen on the other side of the tree, so she was distracted and I had the tree to block for me - and she POOPED ON ME and scratched my side with her toes. But I held on and penned her up and now the mom & babies aren't being harassed.
That is QUITE the adventure

One of my dad's main points for the bernedoodle over the berner is that the poodle would mellow out the higher than average berner prey drive, and I am?? so appreciative??? of the fact that he is concerned for the chickens??

I voiced my appreciation but also pointed out that my friends have a literal bird hunting dog who has been trained and doesn't touch their chickens at all

My preference goes golden, berner, then bernedoodle

DID YOU GET THE PINK ASPARAGUS OR WHATEVER IT WAS
NO

Having poodle in it would make it not shed which is super appealing lol. no idea on prey drive though. it's also unique to the dog. so even if berner was high prey drive and bernedoodle was middle, you could end up with the least prey-drivey berner or most prey-drivey bernedoodle, yknow?

we have shepherds. my dog leaves chickens alone. ludo killed a grown hen. so like idek.

I AM DISAPPOINTED IN YOU, YOU HAVE FAILED ME

Shedding isn't actually a concern.....we're used to a blanket of dog hair on everything from goldens.
