I saw a small speck of gold in a hackle feather in the first photo. So he maybe Black Copper Marans X Blue Langshan.
I can get pictures of the pullet later, if that helps any. Some of their hatch mates (which were from different hens, but I think some had the same sire) are solid black, and there's one that has a welsummer pattern. There was also two barred ones.I saw a small speck of gold in a hackle feather in the first photo. So he maybe Black Copper Marans X Blue Langshan.

I use guineas for flock protection.I'd love a pair of peafowl but doubt my neighbors would appreciate. I'm in a very rural village, but even so, I'd think it would be too much noise. I'd need to be square in the country to feel they'd be appropriate.
Instead, I'm hoping to add a pair of Royal Palms next year. Don't plan to eat them, more as flock protectors - and because how beautiful they are. I'm on half an acre, want to homestead it but my health just isn't cooperating.![]()

Yes our neighbors are very much not thrilled with the peacocks. they wander more than the chickens. apparently one walked out in front of a school bus - OOPS. animal control came by and SO said they were welcome to take any peacocks they could catch - LOL. They're definitely not easy. Animal control left empty handed.
I would too if I had more room. They're independent and won't thrive on my small space.I use guineas for flock protection.
