Pics
What I ment was that the subjects and poses of the subjects alone were very nice and interesting but the way you edited the pictures adding filters/tints (sepia, etc) and vignettes (the darkening of the edges) made them even better. I believe aoxa (and myself) is interested in the editing program...picasa, photoshop, nikon.... you use.

Thanks, aoxa!

First, I like to say....if anybody has any pic editing advice, I'd love to here it....if it is ok to put it in here or however that should be done. I have tried some fancy editer deals and didn't like them.....not even doing one thing to any pic. If there's something pretty user friendly out there and free, I'd like to try it. I can't afford to buy anything and since it's just a hobby can't put any money into it.

Here's how my picture taking hobby goes....

I take tons of pictures...tons...I thought I had thousands, but I'm probably in the millions. I hang the camera around my neck and head outside. I just start shooting while doing stuff....I never head out to just take pics it seems. At night or when I have down time....I start going through them all.

I bring the photo card up and start looking through them, I hit the fix button on one I might like and darken a tad and clear it up a tad on every single photo I take that I like. I give it a name starting with h's, so it puts it infront of everything original on the card...because they start with I. Usually I go hhh, hhh1, hhh2 and so on, then hh, hh1 for a while...working my way down. That way I still have every original I have ever taken so when I learn more I don't ruin making a pic better....come to find out I don't have the megapixels anyway, but oh well.

That's all I usually do with them. If I feel like it, I used to bring up the editing deal picnik and play. Now I bring up picmonkey and play sometimes. Most everything I have posted is older and I don't remember what I did to them. Like the last pic in this last set, I don't remember. I usually just try all kinds of combos in there and just keep starting over until I like something.

The first two chicken pics...I believe I kept going back to just hit the dusk editing button??? The dog. Micki, just the dark edges button I think!...same with the cows. I think the goat was just the dusk button also. I also think it was the first time ever I like the dusk button on something. I'm really not trying to hide anything....lol. I just start playing and don't keep track of what I've done. I like to change some photos and then color part of them back to original. Now that picmonkey changed it to where you have to pay to do some things now, I am limited to what I can do now.

That's kinda what I do. I appreciate you asking! I don't know anything...just like to play around. If anybody has any questions just ask....I have nothing to hide what so ever.....lol...I just really don't know much!

Like....

original...
I use iPhoto for most of my editing. Came with the computer... I use Gimp for anything else (free!) I also use Gimp to add text.

I think you are selling yourself short!

I use picasa. I have heard of picnik, there's a link in picasa to go to their site. Haven't heard of gimp though, will have to check it out.
I agree with aoxa, you are doing a great job. My SIL does photography (people/families) professionally in AR. She uses one of the expensive editing programs, but I guess she needs something like that. She has always told me that the key to getting that great shot is to take TONS! So you are apparently doing it right.
I am the same way though 3acres I have probably 4-5 gigs of critter pics...and only had this group for at most 1 year!

I just love trying to get that perfect shot of them. A couple of ours will walk right up when they see the camera and hog the lens but the others are like ' hey she is back with that big eye....look away!'

LOVE your work!!!

But I gotta know..... WHAT is that cow messing with??? The bottom looks like duck feet walking - the top looks like a cow's back??????

Thank you! That cow was licking her 2011 heifer calf.....the calf has a white face and was eating grass facing the camera....it is hard to tell.

Here is that same calf a couple days ago. She is a couple weeks from being a mom yourself now....I can't wait!!!

she's helping me hay here....

....and is a big pet....

edited: oooops.....went back and looked....wrong heifer....lol.
Here is the heifer in the redish pic a couple days ago....same exact story though....will be a mom herself shorty and is a HUGE pet also.

I'll soon have a nubian doe to take pictures of. Well when my barn is built.

She is so cute it's ridiculous.

Not my photo here, but she is the one on the right. Not the greatest photo granted.. But she can make any photo adorable ;)

This awesome friend of mine is pretty much giving her to us, and raising her until we are able to take her home. She was born on January 10th 2013.

We've named her Alice.

Thanks! I'll be checking out Gimp today!

Thanks :)

Can't wait to have it completed and filled with animals.

Gimp is easy to use in my opinion. Can't get any better than FREE. It was recommended to me by a professional photographer/editor (a friend) I am way too cheap to use photoshop - don't even get me started on how complicated it looks :p

Thanks! I'll be checking out picasa today also then! I'm just now starting to take more people photos and am terrible at it. Here's a run down of what goes on here for me....

horses and cows are real easy to get shots of

I see a ton of chicken shots I like, but they don't stay still any where near long enough...I usually miss the shot or it is blurry..

the goats...the goats...lol...hard to take good shots when they are on your back and shoulders or at your feet....lol. I vaccinated, wormed and trimmed hooves on them the other day in their pen....while I was working on one, the other two were on my back playing, trying to eat my camera strap and stockin hat....lol. I should work on them to where the others can't do that, but what fun is that...

I've never seen a critter so passionate about getting into stuff and invading personal space...

the dogs, cats and pigs have been a mixture of everything.

Thanks :)

I bet!

Free is great!...

. Looking forward to playing with it! I've really changed my lifestyle and can't believe how all the little things add up. Yep, my picture taking playing has got to be as close to free as possible. I can't believe how long it took me to get rechargeable batteries....lol....that's been a life saver! Bigger sd cards going on sale and stuff has also helped me.
