She could be a silver pencil and silkie mix but we can never know for sure. We raise SPRs, so we know the feather pattern, but she was gotten at a location where there were not any SPRs when we found her. That certainly doesn't rule them out though, since the person who had her didn't know anything about what different breeds she had and many of her birds either starved or were taken by predators on a regular basis and she would just get some more at a feed mill and let them loose to fend for themselves. Poor conditions doesn't begin to describe it...

Well she's stunning. I'd love one just like her I would also love a spr.

That's sad how little that person cares for their flock and knows. They can't possibly get hardly any eggs or meat birds that way. My sister in law's family does that. In fact that's pretty much how they treat all their animals and sadly love is blind and my brother (who was raised with respect for all animals) doesn't say a thing even though she still doesn't care for her animals. My mother just bought rabbit feed for my sister in law's rabbit who they feed whatever left overs they have available. Which includes but is not limited to produce, popped popcorn (yes that was the bunny's whole diet for a couple days) and sandwich meat yes sandwich meat. Ugh! Some people I tell ya I'd just like to shake. We are currently trying to get her to give us the bunny so that it can be properly cared for and not tortured by their dog. All this after her father teased the family dog with her previous rabbit and then the dog broke into the cage and shredded it when no one was home. My sister in law's response to this was and still is laughter. Ugh. Some people should not be allowed animals. To say she's screwed up and possibly emotionless is an understatement. To be honest I have to try very hard to love her for my brother's sake. Even though she's twisting his world views.

Haven't been on this thread in a little while. Hope you all are doing well.

I'm trying to keep warm and preparing for the winter. Cleaning coops and waterers, switching out birds into different coops, making more chicken doors in my large coop to keep a few pairs/trios in there for breeding.

Haven't seen any of the resident crows the past couple of days which would explain all the hawks. I had a hawk swoop down at one of my large free range girls a couple of days ago and just yesterday I saw a big red tail hawk perched up on one of the garden posts watching my girls and my Jake (young male turkey). Starting to free range my turkey pair with the chickens. The Jake has gotta be over 20 lbs now so I'm hoping the hawks are scared of him and don't come after my birds.

Come back crow!

Throwback from the summer. DOUBLE RAINBOW!!!

Stay warm and safe everyone!

I'd suggest you try to lure crows back with corn but, the squirrels, rats, raccoons will grab it first.
Thanks @Sanna That was the first double rainbow I've ever seen and I though it was pretty cool. I should have gone in front of the pick-up to get a better shot

Hi @drumstick diva We have about 3 or 4 crows that I see often, but they've been nowhere in sight past couple of days.

I detest the rodents and have been finding droppings the past week, so I put out poison in places where the chickens can't get to it and found a little dead one today in the run before I let the birds out.

Maybe it read my post cause the crow is back today!
