A sunny January day on the farm. The black copper Marans were let out to roam today. And with the very mild winter, flowers are still blooming.

Winter and roses blooming?? I want to live where you live!!

That's a very handsome rooster you have there.

This winter has been exceptionally warm in Louisiana. We've only had two cold spells lasting 2 or 3 days, and temperatures barely reached 30 F. I'm hoping the mild winter does not mean a searing summer, because that will make for some dangerously hot and humid days.

Agree

The flock has taken their winter hiatus but I do have a young pullet that reached point of lay last month who is giving me eggs occasionally. I don't have any nice photos but I do have this cell phone photo of her first two eggs.

Those are beautiful! What breed is she?

Oh she's a black Copper Marans. I'm pretty positive it's my yellow banded pullet. The color has darkened a bit since she's gotten into the rhythm of laying, but I don't have any recent photos I can share
