Beards are cool! Bring it on 3 . My son shaves his head - since he was bald early anyhow - it was a real jolt when I first saw it. But now he has a trimmed beard and I LOVE it!

I'm very impressed with the animals you plan to get but, what? No emus!!
Nah, no emus in the plans as of right now. Not really sure why. ...who knows though...tomorrow may change...

There will definitely be pictures!! The farm is gorgeous. I can't wait to get out there with my camera. lol We have a Zedonk, a Zebra-donkey mix here at the farm where I work. Trust me, you don't want one. lol They're just pretty but not good to handle. Of course I can only speak for our Fancy Pants, but I've heard and read many stories how unpredictable these mixes are. And the little research I've done on the "breed", they don't make great pets or animals for any use, really. There are some horse x zebra mixes that supposedly have been ok to ride, but all other stories I have heard and read, these animals aren't great to work with. My feeling is, that people only breed them for their looks. Anything special, differen and rare, usually becomes a good source of income as well. :/ Zebras are wild animals. Donkeys are stubborn. We have several of them here. In my experience, they do what they want.
I would think the combination of donkey and zebra would make them hard to work with because donkeys are stubborn like you said. I don't doubt though that with the right, amiable, willing to please, handler oriented, HORSE, that they could be even easier to work with or perhaps ride. But that being said, I have known some **** stubborn, difficult to control or ride horses too, or at least ones who are good but then decide not to listen on certain days, so I'm sure it depends. But even so, zebras being WILD ANIMALS, I don't think they should be bred and it's sad people think they should be. It's like the people who have lions and tigers as pets and the people, so many people:( , who breed white tigers, and the cub petting operations, monkeys on the black market, other exotics etc :( makes me so sad people think this stuff is humane or that they are pets. They are very wild and very dangerous and you should not even own, let alone be cuddling and sometimes sleeping with, a full grown, or even young, lion or tiger. Even if you think they're a big kitten. Even in play, by accident, with not a mean bone in their body, they can kill with a paw swipe. People are ridiculous :( sorry for the rant lol

When you get the camels and zebras you definitely have to post pictures of them. Beautiful animals you have now. I really like the cute kids, brooding ducks and goose I think is what the one is, Mandarin drake, and Wood drake.
Thanks! Will do on the camels and zebra. Housing wise, I'm ready for them now...but not money wise...lol. Hopefully I'll have them by next year at this time.

Thanks for the kind words! Lots of fun happening! I brought home another 12 head of cattle a couple days ago, had twin lambs born this morning, halter breaking llamas....always something...

Amazing pictures!!!! I'm laughing at the first llama...adorable but the look on he/she's face is priceless! ("I am not amused" or something to that effect lol...)
Thanks! ...lol...yeah, I just got her a few days ago...just weaned from her mom the day I got her. Yep...she's most certaintly not amused with me right now...lol. I'm working on winning her over. I just have 4 llamas right now....2 are crazy tame now and working on the other 2.

The pictures are fantastic, these are my favorites! And the little drakes are gorgeous! I always wanted Mandarin ducks, but just don't have a place to put them. And now that I'll be moving to New York in about 2 months for a new job, I even have to sell my chickens.

Someday I'll have chickens again, and maybe ducks. This job is way worth it and I'm super excited!
Thanks! My pair of Mandarins are real young, but really fun to watch. I think the drake will keep getting prettier and also needs to hold his head feathers up more. I'm working on building them a bigger pen with landscaping and logs and a bigger swimming area. My wood ducks are getting an identical pen right next to them. I'd like to add a different species of wild duck or 2 each year. Canada geese are on the list also to get...

. Congrats on the new job! Does sound bittersweet...sorry you have to sell your chickens! I bet when you can get back into them, you'll be able to jump right in taking what you've learned with them and start kicking butt right away. Sounds like you'll be around some really nice horses!

sorry for the rant lol
I agree with everything you said. Wild animals have developed specific behaviors to survive out in the nature. Domesticated animals don't have to hunt for their food, or run away from predators. Even though today's domesticated horse still has the spook factor in them, it's what kept them alive through evolution, and that's ok.

You'll have to post us pictures of the finished duck enclosures! I'd love to see them.

We had a Canadian female goose once. She was caught by wildlife rehabilitators or something like that, and she could not be released back to the wild. She ended up passing away with us from old age. She was very friendly! And they're so beautiful. Have you thought of a pair of swans, btw?? Wouldn't that be fun? The whooper swan is the national bird of Finland so maybe I'm a little bias. lol

Yes, leaving my current job is very bittersweet...but honestly, June can't get here fast enough! I'm so ready to get out of here and move on with my life. And you're right, the day I get to dive back into the world of chickens, I'll have all the knowledge that I've learned so far to help me get going again. It'll happen, I'll make sure of it! lol

Yeah, it's really unfortunate. The worst part, at least to me, though isn't necessarily the people keeping them as a cool pet (though that sucks too cause it often leads to improper care/doet and handling), but more the people making a profit off of and exploiting these poor animals. White tigers and also "golden" ones aka the many shades of lighter orange resulting from breeding for white, are considered "rare" and "beautiful" and some people even call them a separate species! That irks me. They're nothing more than Bengal tigers and all of them are inbred and most are also horribly sickly or deformed cause they all came from one white tiger bred over and over and back to relatives for the color. And the cub petting, they're just tossed out or sold to some other horrible place like a roadside zoo or circus when they get too big to be used. Plus USDA has regulations they can be no younger than 8 weeks and no older than like 4 months but theyre often much younger (and ripped from momma) and much older because they make them money. So they sell the white tigers or have cub petting things and make big bucks while the animals suffer. It's sad, really. And then there's the instincts like you said. They are wild animals and have wild instincts. Therefore they are dangerous. And yes, horses definitely still have a spook factor and I believe chickens do too. Fight or flight. I've witnessed it with both horses and chickens first hand. Thankfully, I wasn't riding the horse that spooked but I was trail riding with some other people, one of whom has a sensitive and flighty/skittish horse. He's a sweet boy but pretty fire-y and easily spooked. He spooked on the trail. Then another time, one of the horses who was supposed to be good on the trail and never spook spooked. And she ran off down the trail. And of course, my horse (okay, not mine, I don't one, thenone I was riding), is a very sweet boy and loves to take care of people and others plus doesn't like to be left alone so he took off after her to find her/make sure she was okay. And it was a pretty narrow trail and I had barely been on any trail rides so I was scared lol but fortunately it was just a short stretch and with some help from others, we all managed to get our horses under control and turn around haha the chickens jist spook for random reasons. I like their instincts though but it can be scary.

Sorry to go off on the massive rant and way off topic. I'm sure maybe you know a lot of that anyways and if not, definitely don't want to hear it lol it just upsets me and when i get started i go on lol

You definitely seem to know far more about the tigers than I do. That's all good information! And I know a whole bunch about horses and spooking. LOL I've been on several horses, most cases turned out just fine, as did yours. But I've had a couple of falls and was hurt. But all in all, I've been very lucky not to get injured more than a dislocated lower back on one occasion. And a concussion with a fractured vertebrae. And I've been riding most of my life and I've developed a pretty good seat. A survival seat as my old trainer called it.
lol.png
I stay on, and when I hit the ground, let's just say that it hasn't been a good ride. lol I always thank my lucky stars for still being able to do what I do the best, which is horses! I love it and wouldn't give up my profession for anything.
