Right on! I paid $1k for my '78 Dodge camper special. It has a 440 engine and sucks gas, but it also was very well maintained. It has some rust, but it is an oldie but goodie. I just recently sunk a bunch more into it than it is worth, because I like it so much and I want to keep it.

Funny suggestion, even though you already bought your truck. Don't get a lifted one if you like to wear short tight skirts. LOL. Long time ago, I did, and had one of my most embarrassing moments trying to get back into the truck after gassing up. A guy was across the station just leaning against his car smiling and watching, and wondering what I was going to do. I finally just said to myself, aw ta heck with it, and hiked my skirt up around my waist and climbed in, and got out of there as quick as I could.

Our Chevy isn't a farm truck but it was used for some pretty good hauling for years before we bought it and she's still kicking butt and taking names. Never have had a lick of luck with the Fords we've had... but my Dad swears by them, including his (older than ours) truck. He's also a DIYer and he's kept that truck going for years, though I can't tell you what all he's had to do to keep it that way. Our Chevy, after years of serious (commercial, just not farm) abuse has had to have new shocks and of course tires and battery over the years, but that's about it. Overall I'd vote for Chevy just based on how much I love ours and my bad ford juju... but if you're like dad and have had good luck... well I'd still vote for the Chevy, pending test drive/mechanic looksie... you didn't notice anything but a light switch wrong with that... verses steering and/or alignment issues (which have gone on for HOW long you have to wonder) with the Ford.

Here's our favorite work truck. Rarely leaves the farm and when it does people get out of the way. Especially if I'm driving.

I drive a '91 Ford F350 Dually. Bought it in 03. I pull a Steel 3 horse slant Bumper Pull horse trailer. Most of my horses are Halter Horses weighing over 1300 lbs and I pull my trailer fully loaded no problem. I also have hauled Round Bales, lots of square bales, shavings and several hundred pounds of feed in it.
It aint pretty, but it gets me there and back. I was raised on Ford, but that being said, it depends on the engine in the dually. Mine has the 7.3 Diesel IDI engine, I have almost 400,000 on it. It was not maintained well before we got it and used roughly. I take care of it. We have had some weird issues with ours, not common at all, so my experience with problems is not a fair assessment.

However, save for the few odd problems we have had she does her job! I have hauled to TN, FL, LA, AL and all over GA. I never hesitate to take her anywhere.
