Farming as healing.

Quote:
I used to make a living from strictly farming. What I wouldn't give to go back to that time in my life. Hard work-low pay yes.....but it was the best time of my life. We had two years of drought and one of too much water. I can remember the stress dad was under. In my eyes the best solution was to leave the farm so the added expense of paying my wages wouldn't be more of a drain on dad or the farm. I can remember there not being enough pasture for our 300 head of brood cows, so much rain we couldn't get the beans harvested and they were a loss. You are right, it isn't the life people think it is, but it is what is deep in our blood and you can't get rid of it.....and I don't want to. This "little" hobby farm keeps me in touch with my roots and I believe gives me some form of therapy.

Farming is a great way of life but its not idealic for all people. DH has an ag eng degree and came home to farm right after college. The land we farm has been in his family for many generations and the house we live in, DH's grandparents built before WWII.

I was working in a stressful job that was ruining my health. I was recently diagnoses with fibromyalgia and suffer from depression. I quit my job to help DH farm since his father passed away over a year ago. Our income comes from farming & cattle. Neither DH or myself would change our way of life for anything. He has never worked for anyone else (and really wouldnt make a great employee--too bossy

I love the peacefullness of being in a tractor or combine most of the day w/no phones & no complaining coworkers. Our house is surrounded by the fields we plant as is our "neighbors" I consider myself very lucky and we have a very good life

Farming not stressful?!? What's this guy been smoking????

The lows for the last few mornings have been 20, 24, 23, and 27. My peach trees and plum trees are in full bloom. Do I have to tell you what happened to those blooms? Who thinks it ISN'T stressful to walk up and down those rows of trees and know this year's harvest is already over?!?
