We have to sedate both of our drafts. What a pain. Once they're sedated they feel like they're going to fall over when he picks up their hoof. So you have to lean against the opposite side to balance a 1900 lb horse. Also requires coordinating the vet with the farrier and trailering the horses to the vet unless you want to pay the ranch call.
We've worked extensively with both horses using rope loops to pick up their hoofs and they'll let us do it but not the farrier. It's hard to find farriers that will do drafts anyway. Their hoofs are the size of dinner plates.
