Fart eggs.....?

I found one in the run today. is it common for them to lay the fart egg just wherever and not in the nest? also someone told me that a fart egg is the end of a fertile cycle? that since my hens were with roos once all the roos stuff was used up that they would lay a fart egg at the end of the cycle?

I have a few "fart" eggs that we have dried out. Mine have always come from a hen just starting to lay.
