Fast Coop Height Advice!!!

My LF have never tried going high, but my banties can fly like crazy! Easily can clear 5' or so.

Can you use deer netting and kind of wrap it around the tree trunks? It will also help you rest a little easier about hawks and flying predators.

GOod luck!

Well I think we are going to get the 5 foot fence, I am not very worried about flying predators as I am outside most the time anyways. I am definately not worried about the BR getting out but the bantams I am worried about. I'll get some pictures of the construction site soon!!

I can definitely tell you from experience. We have a 6 foot fence and have had bantam and young standard size chickens fly over the fence. I've trimmed their flight feathers in the past to prevent them from flying over. This year we are adding deer netting to the top, also to keep the predators out.

You may not have to worry about flying predators, but coons can climb over the fence just as easily...

I have a friend who has 6 foot fencing and a fox got in and beheaded half her hens!!
We are constructing our pen now, 12 x 24' with a 6 foot fence and a TOP~....

We have a 6 week old barred rock roo that flies up to the door way when we come in, he is already up to about 4-5 feet.
