I was out watering the chickens and guineas again today since the heat is so horrid here in Kansas. I have 3 guineas that are about 6 weeks old and then some adults but I noticed everyone was running around after one of these young guineas.

The young guinea had something in its mouth and was really fast in keeping away from the others. I couldn't catch him and get it but finally saw it was a baby bird! I have a wren house in the tree outside the run and apparently one of the baby birds was trying to learn to fly and probably landed in the run. The mama wren was having a hissy fit at me and the guineas but there was nothing I could do.

It must have thought it was a big bug or flying insect.

Wow so weird! I just came back in from watering the chickens and had the exact same thing happen! One of my pullets caught it. Of course then began the game of Keep Away. I thought it was a big grasshopper, but the way it was "flopping" when the pullet ran, I quickly changed my mind. After following her for a while, I finally noticed it was a small bird. I have no idea what kind it was, but the chickens got some extra protein today.

I was so surprised that this happened! It is funny to watch them chase a butterfly or winged insect. One day my 2 baby ducks were running around in circles and finally I figured out that they were chasing a butterfly or something!
