FAST RESPONSE NEEDED: Chickens vs Rain

Hi Julie -

We're in Central Florida, too. My ducks are loving this! I let my chickens free range, rain or shine. The coop doors are open during the day. A couple of the smart ones stay high and dry in the coop, but most of them go out into the rain. At least it's not freezing cold out any more. They haven't gotten sick so far. Their coops have plenty of dry hay.

I dont know about little ones, mine were too little when we put them outside in their coup, I didnt write it down although i could look at a pic.....well never mind they were 5 weeks! I let them go out whenever they wanted. THey are always standing around in the rain as if its not even happening.

If it's too much of a down pour ... based on me not wanting sick CHICKS .... I lock them up in their coop with the door cracked but they can not get out. When the rain is nothing more then a drizzle & I've checked the radar, I open the door for them to decide. Figured I better get them use to it because what happens if I'm gone from home, they are out & the skies open up?

I can say when it turns night ... they do NOT come out of their house for anything. they do learn.
