Sorry, I haven't dealt with Cackle before. My brahmas are from Ideal. Everyone said you can't expect show or breeder quality out of hatchery birds, but I lucked out with my dark brahmas. My roo is nearly perfect and I have two very nice dark hens. All my brahmas are big fat healthy birds, especially my roo Thor. I stopped weighing him when he hit 13 lbs.

Wow!

That's one big roo! I've never weighed my boys before. They turn one at the end of March, I try weighing them then just to see.

Tell me about it! He's slightly on the fat-ish side:

I am new to chickens and my girls just started laying a cfew months ago. However, I do notice the brahmas being shorter and wider thant he orpingtons and barred rocks.

Well, my Brahma girls are going on year 1 starting march, and I have not had any problems with their egg laying yet, except for one girl who, several months ago always laid really big eggs, then one day a double yolker. After that, the next day she started limping, gasping for air, and pooping out bubbling liquid. I think the next egg trying to get through her was too much. Eventually, after an effort and no result in helping - She died.

Other than that, I'm not sure of your problem. My girls don't even lay long eggs, they are usually nicely shaped and medium to large.

Never owned Brahmas. I have a Buff Orpington who always lays them like that - turtle egg shaped - very round and wide. She is also a very sporadic layer, taking breaks of several days frequently. None of the other buffs I ordered at the same time have eggs that shape.

Well my brahma is younger than yours, so I'm no help. She'll be 1 year old at the end of this month. Her eggs are still pretty small but with a really pointy top. I'm waiting for her 1st molt to see how big her eggs get.
