Fat Little Chick

I just wanted to give an update on fat little buzz, now called Ellie, she is now 5 months old and although she is a very big girl she seems very happy, although she doesn't seem to understand that she's too big to sit on my shoulder now! And she is suoplying us with a steady stream of double yolkers! I still don't think she'll have a long life but it seems to be a happy one!

Congrats! I have heard of people who have had "meaties" around for quite some time with the right feeding etc practices. Sounds like she is doing well under your care. If she is allowed lots of room to run around she will stay healthy longer. The main issue meat birds seem to have is with eating too much. The get fat and have heart problems. Some have been successful with keeping them around for a few years though. Don't get discouraged - if she is still around and providing you with eggs just love her and appreciate her! And, Kudos to you for giving her a happy home.
