I have 15 chicks in a nursery in my coop, some are 1.5 some are 2.5 weeks. I have noticed on a couple of the Faverolles that they are getting sort of bald spots. One in particular pics shown, has the most pronounced change. I was checking them out and it actually looks like the feathers were singed or burnt (they are not of course). The fluff is almost crispy and 'shrunken?' this is found on the chest/crop area, i guess where they are in contact with the ground when they are laying down, as well behind both legs going back to the vent, but that area is not as bad at all. They are eating, acting normal... I did not see any signs of this on any of the other breeds of chicks.
I did notice when I changed the water the other day that there were the tiniest of white bugs slowly crawling on/under the waterer. They looked like dust, till you noticed them moving, maybe these are some kind of mite or lice, and could be causing this??? I did not notice any on the birds themselves at all...I dusted them with D.E. just in case.......any suggestions??? Thanks!!!
