I just recently acquired 5 healthy Salmon Faverolles chicks, but I've noticed that they're a lot quieter than the other breeds that I've kept as babies. Compared to the others, they don't peep nearly as much. This is my 1st time with Faverolles, so I'm not familiar with the breed. Is this normal for them?

Well, I have a bunch right now, and they are just as active and noisy as my other chicks... My first Salmon fav. chick was the same way... How long have you had them (sorry if you said already)?

I found my 2 to be much louder and more nervous than my other 10 breeds (20 chicks). Actually they were too loud and wouldn't let me come near them. I got rid of them. I had read how quiet and calm they are, which is why I got them. Maybe they would have mellowed with age.

Sounds like yours are the normal ones, and mine were off. Mine came from MyPetChicken/Meyers Hatchery.

They were hatched out on the 24th of Aug. I received them the following day.

Hmmm..... that's odd. I also got mine off of MPC, but they never mentioned which hatchery that they were from. Other than being quieter, they still do the same thing as other chicks....eating, scratching around, play fighting mixed in with a lot of sleeping etc.

Well, if they are doing everything else normal I wouldn't worry about it

I'm sure they are fine - cute little buggers aren't they?!! I love my salmon favs... I have a 2 year old LF and a 3 month old bantam. Both are wonderful, friendly birds. My banty was crazy as a chick, then all of a sudden, she calmed down and now likes to be held!!

Neither Sammy or Mini Me talk a whole lot.

I was thinking that if you had literally just gotten them, they might just need time to perk up, but it sounds like they are fine - any pics??!!!

I'm sure as they get older they'll be real sweethearts, but right now they're a little sensitive. The other day I looked into their box, and all I said was "hey, babies" and it totally freaked them out and caused them to scatter. Sheesh.

From what I've gathered on here MPC uses Meyer's to supply all of their chicks.

It's my first year with chickens, and oddly enough the "loudmouths" that were to aloof for my situation (I'm downtown, and illegal) were the Faverolles, a Cochin, a Silkie, and an EE. All the breeds known for being quiet and cuddly. My Leghorn on the other hand is sweet and quiet, and not flighty at all... Individuals seem to vary quite a lot..

Boy isn't that the truth. I also have some Blue Andalusians and Sicilian Buttercups. Every online description you ever hear about these breeds is that they're fidgety, flighty and avoid human contact. This couldn't be farther from the truth as far as my girls are concerned. They will follow me around the yard like puppy dogs and pester me until I actually pick them up and hold them.
