Faverolles Thread

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I thought Salmon Favs were either Black or Blue as a base color. Obviosly the splash show none of these colors and then you have the white favs. But your standard salmons are either blue or black?
I am not the expert on genetics/colors, I just know my birds and the girls have no black, just a kind of blue gray under feathering that shows up some. You can see it in some of my pics I was talking about.

By far most salmon Faverolles are black based. However there are a few blue salmons out there, mostly bantams. Blue salmon LF are rare - Pasofinofarm and elizmartin are the only ones I know of with those.

Blue salmon works the same as blue:

salmon x salmon = 100% salmon
blue salmon x salmon = 50% blue salmon, 50% salmon
blue salmon x blue salmon = 25% salmon, 50% blue salmon, 25% splash salmon
blue salmon x splash salmon = 50% blue salmon, 50% splash salmon

There are also solid BBS Faverolles, bantam and LF, (very rare) and white Faverolles, bantam and LF, (very rare). There were buffs at one point but are now gone.

I forgot there are mahogany Faverolles as well. Also rare.

It can be difficult to tell salmon hens and blue salmon hens apart. However blue salmons are not common, so unless you are positive your source has blue salmons then in all likelihood you have salmons.

Thanks,
I think I might try and take some pics maybe if ya'll see them you could tell me what they are. I am pretty sure the one is a splash but, I am not sure about the other. I think it might be a splash too, but her coloring is a little darker then the other so I am not sure.

I know my source and I know they are a true Salmon. The blue under coloring fascinates me however. I am learning all these terms, if you asked me I would say they had gray feathers, same for parts of the boys but I guess it is all in the terminology

How are they considered "black based"? Is that due to the male coloring? Because it certainly doesn't show up in the girls except that little bit of gray.

Well, technically Faverolles are wheaten based (silver wheaten mahogany). That's why chicks are yellow. I only phrased my response as "black based" = salmon because the original question put it that way.

Also people are more familiar with the way blue/black/splash works, so maybe thinking of salmon is the same as black will help them realize salmon/blue salmon/splash salmon is no different.

Cloverleaf,
Will you be selling shipping hatching eggs from your faverolles next Spring? If so let me know in Jan. I am saving up to buy some. I want a large egg layer, LF type. I do not mind if I get a splash either they are really pretty too. gloria Jean
Yes I will be. :) PM me in December, that's when I start my waiting list for the following year.
