Faverolles Thread

I was just wondering what everyones experience on broodiness is with faverolles. So far I have heard different things from everyone.

BOTH of mine. Dang things won't stay out of the boxes. Spent 15 minutes the other night taking one out of the box and putting her on the roost, taking her out of the box, putting her on the roost, etc, etc, etc until it got too dark for her see to jump down. They flatten out and growl when anyone comes near. No rooster, no fertile eggs. They are trying to hatch pine shavings.

Henry, got any fertile eggs you need hatched?

Of course I have no idea how these girls would do on an actual "job".

If not, guess I gotta get me a "broodie buster" cage big enough for two.

Mine have never even shown any interest in setting. If one ever did, I would stuff atleast 2-3 dozen under her cause my hens are massive fluff balls.

Yes, Henry, I got told to ask you for some eggs from a particular cock that has a very small comb. I am completely interested.

So, I received an early easter basket today. :) I had Polish Cap eggs, Comet eggs, Orloff eggs, my FIRST Marans egg and my FIRST FAVORELLE egg!

The Fav egg isn't from the U of A birds. They are still too young, but its so nice to have Favs here and laying. My son was all about Orpingtons this past year and I think he still likes them but thankfully he is taking a shine to the Favs. I have a real range of brown eggs, from white, tinted, cream, pinkish, medium brown and dark.
Also, Sandi, I heard that you crossed that Dorking with a Fav. Were those among the little ones coming up here with Echo?

Hi I do have a cockerel with a very small comb. One of my cockerels has had terrible frostbite living in an open air barn here in Vermont while his small combed companion has not suffered frostbite at all. I will be doing most of my hatching from the small combed male. So yes your welcome to some eggs once the pullets get cranking again. Only getting an egg or two a day. But when I am getting more I will let you know and send you a dozen. Glad to hear your getting some eggs!

How do I get a hold of this Bridgette Riddle? Is she on this site? I do not mind driving for some good birds.
Thanks for any help.

Thank you Henry. I have noticed that the cockerel from U of A has a rather small comb so far. I wonder if he might not be an option for me down the road. Its so nice to have birds laying well. Even the duck decided she'd try again :)

I know mine arent show quality, But here are my two girls and my boy!! There is a ameracauana girl in there with them she is the same age

Welcome! You say yours aren't show quality, but they're much better than what I've seen out of the hatcheries lately. Where did you get them?

Thank you!! I got them from a farm down the road from me. She is an awesome lady. Hers are beautiful!! I try not to deal with hatcheries. She has most of everything that I want so I just deal with her :)
