I also might do a dozen 1/2 whites and 1/2 salmons from Ron Patterson its all depends on wether I decide to keep a small flock of LF and small flock of Bantams and split the coop or if I keep a few LF hens and a larger flock of Bantams. I might actually take the LF to college with me and leave my parents with the bantams. HMMM we will just have to see how it all plays out.

Long time...

I have a friend that I know for sure has a few six year old hens that are still laying and still fertile.... dunno past that.

Back from lurking...
I have an opportunity to get a cockerel from the Boulanger Line or the Buffington (sp?) line.
I have 3 hens from eggs from McCallum's flock, one of whom I believe meets standard. (#2 has skimpy muff and #3 has black 'splashing').
I'm getting eggs (WooHoo!) from Cloverleaf in April.
Oh, and I will probably only show at our Fair and at Stockton. (but might ship eggs, and maybe birds if not too far)

: Which boy should I get? Boulanger? Or Buffington?

I just now (thanks for being here Peter! And just at the right time!) read about Dick Boulanger, but can't find any reference (yet) to Buffington.
I have loved Faverolles from afar for years, and just got into them last Summer.
One other variable is getting along with the Barnie roos so they can all free range together... I may be dreaming on that one.

thank you Peter for all your input and years of working with such a wonderful breed of bird!

i wish back in the 90's when i was taking animal science in high school that we had gone over birds and especially chickens. i had birds as a kid and knew some stuff from that but if i had ever known about how wonderful and entertaining having chickens was i would have begged my teacher to let us learn about birds instead of just mammals.

now that i've found the joys of having chickens i just wish we had bought that big piece of farmland i really wanted (just too far away from where we both worked). if i had that land i would be doing the same thing as Henry! getting lots of different lines and setting up different pens for breeding just to keep these beauties alive and thriving!

Hey My house is on an acre and a half you would be suprised

I pasture most of my chickens though so its not to bad but my quarentine is several large dog crates. My coop fits 15 bantams and my other tractor fits about 6 adult birds. I am going to use a tractor for a grow out pen also. My setup is limited to birds in quarentine and two breeding groups. You would be suprised

I wish I had more farm land and room for more birds.

Well Henry, you live it for us when we can not get the Faverolles right now LOL!

Hook, line and skinker, you got me SOLD...going back to get Faverolles for eye candy LOL.

None of the bantams I had were ever broody....has any of yours done so????????? As far as I know, they were not the real broody kind like the Orpingtons and Silkies are.
