I've been trying to get experience with different breeds, because I'd like to pick 2 or 3 and really focus on them. Eventually. Salmon Favs seem to be one of those where there are not a lot of breeders, I had a hard time finding breeders for Australorps too. :/ But I see Ameraucanas and Marans everywhere I go.

Anyway, I'm taking someone suggestion and periodically taking pictures to send to Ideal. Not to gripe, but just o they know how to improve

I want to show you the picture of my little "hideaway" Fave.
(She was the suprise at the bottom of the nest this spring.) She is quite a bit darker than any of my others and not in the Fave pen. I, like you, will not raise a fuss with Ideal, but she's not a typical color at that age. Maybe the Fave rooster (her Dad) was a work in progress for darker roos..... but who knows. I can only assume she will lighten like my others did. If not, that's ok too. She's very sweet.

awwwwwwww thank you! I am very hopeful that she will make it and thrive! I noticed yesterday that she is rubbing her eye on her shoulder. She might be getting a bit uncomfortable with it now. But otherwise she is still doing great.

I think I will be taking weekly pics to post in here.

I think it may take a while before the feeling leaves the eye....and surely it gets dirt etc in it from the days activities. I'm sure mine probably rubbed hers some too, just not a lot more than the others, so I didn't find it worrysome. I'm looking forward the see the weekly pics

They did not offer me a refund, (they scolded me for mentioning that their salmon favs had some genetic issues) but that's okay-- my birds are very valuable to me as pets (not breeding stock). I also bought directly from Meyer, instead of MPC, so no doubt their customer service is different people! But MPC's faverolles come from Meyer. Or, they did at the time. I don't know if they source chicks from Meyer 100% of the time anymore.

Hatchery chicks can feather in very dark!

Hello , am glad that you mentioned on the list that they were dissapointed about being mentioned. I say over and over….Hatchery or not….Faverolle chicks should be yellow, and there is a standard color pattern for ***Salmon Faverolles**** to be called Salmon…..and to continue to be a color sex link breed. Its not that the hatchery darkys aren't pretty, they just are not a representative of what the breed is supposed to look like and everyone receiving something else should show and tell them…..And cross beak is usually a genetic trait and is a problem that should be owned up to and culled. Just my opinion.

Can anyone tell me how to sex blue and splash faverolles? My salmons are very apparent which is which. I just can't find any info about the blue and splash colours.

They are like most other breeds. Look for reddened combs around 4-6 weeks.

Yup, though any that are slower to feather in are likely males. The blue male I have took FOREVER to feather in.

You could certainly be right, but let me show you some more pictures........ Here she/he is with a rooster that was hatched within a couple of days of her/him:


His/Her posture is wrong for a roo. Also,
he/she is very submissive. A banty easter egger in with these two chases Him/her all over the pen, away from food, etc. I think the determining factor may be when he/she crows or lays an egg. (I do agree with you about the coloring, but the "neck" feathers are blunted and fluffy. This baby has me stumped now.....

How old are these birds?
I have one baby that is similar to yours. Mine are all crosses though (Faverolles rooster over various hens). They all have classic Faverolles coloring except for one. It started yellow and developed a pink comb very early on (2-3 weeks). However, the comb has not grown at all and is still very pullet-like. The chick is 8 weeks old now. Not aggressive and does not fight with the cockerels. Red and brown splotches indicate cockerel. Not really sure on this one.
