But... there is a ranch up the way with Emus patrolling the fencelines... maybe he'd loan me a Hen for a month... or Borrow a roo if he promises to take good care of him

Hi all....I am wondering if black favorelles chicks are black when they are hatched. I was given some eggs that came from eBay. Eggs were light buttery brown. The 2 chicks that I hatched are mostly black with buff/yellow wing tips and rump. They were sold as salmon fav's. 5toes on only 1 foot of 1 chick. Both have signs of leg and toe feathers at 36 hours old. The only other chick to hatch from same shipment seems typical. Anyone have some black favorelles chick pictures that they could post for comparison?

Thanks

I have one. I can get a picture later. But it looks like a lot of other black chicks - black back and wings, yellow belly and wingtips.

Ditto! I used to raise Black Fav bantams for a little while. Black all over but have soft yellow underparts and wingtips. It will shed by the time adult feathers come in which they should be BLACK.
