Yes it irks me that they do not accept splash colored birds, after all, they are part of the black, blue breedings! Too many good birds are out there but get discriminated because they are splash.
here are some pics of my month old hatchery salmon faverolles, was supposed to be 1 male and 5 females but obviously they mis-sexed one of the females cuz its a boy! very sparse toe feathering, but i wasnt expecting miracles from hatchery birds, they are all happy and healthy!
I haven't been on here for a while, but thought I ought to report in!
The youngsters that I got from CloverLeaf Farm back in February are doing well. I've got what looks like a pretty nice trio in one pen (I need to take some pictures soon!), and turned the beardless boy out to run with the laying hens. I'll use him on the Wyandotte hens next year and see what I get. He runs to meet me and tags along behind me when I'm working outside. The other cockerel went badly lame and I put him out to run loose, too, and something got him.
The six chicks from Melissa's eggs are growing great -- a trio of Salmons and two white cockerels and a white pullet. I should go look at the calendar, but I think they are six weeks old now -- their Wyandotte foster-mother is still in with them, but I'm going to turn her out soon, as she's started laying again. I can't tell yet if the whites are pure white or not, but it doesn't matter to me anyway!
Finally got part of my order from Sand Hill, including a few Buckeye chicks and some of the Mille Fleur Leghorns that I'd ordered. They'll be sending the rest of my order week after next, which is a bit of a pain, because I'll have to set up another brooder pen (unless a couple of my hens conveniently decide to go broody soon!). I was beginning to wonder if those chicks were ever going to get here! Hopefully a few of the Mille Fleurs will be nicely colored pullets that I can use for the start of my Mille Fleur Faverolles project, since I don't want to cross-breed any of the Fav hens.
It's been somewhat wet here, too, but it usually dries up about mid-June, so we are looking forward to some summer weather! Might actually get up into the low seventies over the next few days! I've got a whole bunch of company coming starting in about a week, so probably won't be back on here again for a while.
