Glad to hear the black hen is still laying. Another hatch yesterday, buffs, salmon and blacks. Next week will be all salmon.

Yep both Cindy's hen and mine are laying they are so amazing thanks for doing such a good job with them they are great espeacially that big splash pullet she is going to be stunning. How old are the splashes again? Glad your hatching so much! in a few years I would love to get some buffs I just love the buff color on most birds and buff on favs would be stunning!

Henry

I know that one splash hen is going to be really nice. That is the one I was going to keep. But I knew you would take care of her. They are just about 3 months old now. I have one nice buff pullet. She has the correct color. I'll be here if you need any buffs in the future.

Great! Ya she is just about perfect I think when she is mated with the black cockerel they should produce some nice chicks. I will certainly contact you after a few years. I want lots of favs of every color its just I don't have enough room. When I have my own place for sure!

I just found something interesting! Take a look at this page: http://pagesperso-orange.fr/volaillepoultry/meusien2.html That Meusienne rooster is just what my beardless Salmon Faverolles cockerel looks like (or will, when he's full-grown)! I wonder...if we could gather up all of the beardless Salmon Faverolles, if we couldn't get a start on the Meusienne breed in this country? It says that the Meusienne was bred out of the German Faverolles, apparently with no other breeds added, just using the beardless birds that crop up. (If someone can get that picture to post here, I'd appreciate it!)

Kathleen

ETA: I've e-mailed the contact at the bottom of the page -- will see if I get a response! (In English, preferably!)

Thats cool they are pretty but I like faverolles better ha ha I love bearded birds so I don't like the idea of getting rid of the beards on Faverolles. It would be a good use for all of the beardless faverolles that pop up though.

Here are the pics Kathleen, the hen and the roo...wow, that's interesting...too bad I didn't know about them before I sold off the 2 hens for layers...

That's what I was thinking, too, Henry -- I wouldn't want to get rid of the beards, but the beardless ones that show up could be put to a good use instead of being culled! Or, as in the case of my cockerel, I plan to use him on my Wyandotte hens and see what I get. But re-creating another breed that we don't have here would be even better!

Thank you!

I expect we will manage to come up with some more beardless Favs over the years -- I plan to keep my beardless cockerel (he's a nice boy, so far, at least). As I told Henry, I wouldn't want to get rid of the beards, but it's nice to know that there's a use for the beardless ones. It *is* too bad we didn't find this before you sold your two hens!

That is true I will let other work on that project I am already in to deep with the favs and all there colors plus I have been lucky enough that I haven't hatched a beardless bird yet.
