Faverolles Thread

Just read the entire thread, it brought tears to my eyes, I miss mine so much. I hate skunks that kill chickens. I have to agree that Faverolles must just have the neatest personalities in world...I got both of mine as adults, one LF and one Bantam....each was entirely different, and equally loveable!

I would like to get more Faverolles as well, now that the predator issues are calm and coops the bird sleep in are reinforced....this is me and Dexter (Bantam SF) who is being camera shy...he was absolutely the best, he rode on my shoulder like a parrot, I carried him around all over the yard. He waited for me to come home and everything...and I had almost 100 chickens! He was very special! I highly recommend the breed.

hcammack: Sounds like you are still concerned about the neighbors not liking rooster crows & your quiet boxes sound like a solution. Have you ever offered the neighbors a dozen of your eggs, done in a quick visit as not to discuss any rooster matters? Maybe just say you had an xtra dozen that they may be able to enjoy. Hope the neighbors are approachable; it not, then keep on doing what you're doing. Good luck with building your flock.

Its been alomst three months and no complaints I usually leave the boys out about once a week. Im not to concerned about it most people have their windows shut or aren't listening for a rooster. The boys have also quited down alot. I will be down to one rooster this weekend so that will be even quiter. They have caused much less of an upset in the suburbs then I thought they would at first people reacted negatively but with some carefully handed out eggs and some sweet words the chickens won back their places in the neighborhoods hearts. Now everyone likes to watch the rooster running around their colors are so much brighter then the girls even in plain black chickens like my Ameraucana the rooster just shimmers. I am really glad I got a roo and now I actually cannot imagine not having one in my flock.

i might be getting Faverolles agian this spring , i got some last year they were 9 weeks and the only Large fowl in with bantams the roo died , i was trying to catch the hen for a thing with 4-H and she ran under my foot and i accadently steped on her. If mom will let me i am getting some more along with Araucana chickens this spring. Then i may have Dark brahama eggs comeing to me in the summer.

I would advise not to give eggs to neighbors as peace keeping. What if they accused you for making them sick?? I would give them the eggs ONLY if they ask them or you simply just ask them that you have surplus eggs and wanting to give them away. Unless you are licensed to sell eggs and it would make you free from liability because they ate some of the raw cookie dough from your eggs and they took that risk.

I tried giving that to my neighbor next door that always seems to have a beef with my chickens and he rejected it and said it was not licensed. That's ok. My other neighbor loves my free eggs LOL!
