I have a binder with one of peter grading sheets on each of my birds lets me know what overall trend I need to work towards. Its a really helpful website!
""Misty. Way too young to really be looking at the characteristics you are. Bleeding color. Remind me please, how far away are these young birds you have from a 50/50 cross?""
Good Morning Peter, nice to see your pposts and info. These chicks I now hatching are 4th generation, so maybe that will give you some idea how far removed from original cross. I know he's to young to judge, I was just wanting opinions of what everyone saw and thought of him (compared to their stock) at this age and in the black color. Hope your doing well, have a super weekend

thanks for clarifying that. for a very young -) blk male of 4th gen breeding he's very nice. thoughts on what i did to get my blks, when i had them, to have better fav qualities that i haven't heard much about. yes, this is longer in the process but sure does make consistency of type. Go back another time to salmon. don't grab your throats in horror. it will add to overall in time as opposed to detracting the color. build the house of the breed and then paint it. i have every intention of doing that with the lavs, not that their lacking in type or will be as the stock used to create them is generously typey. pretty muffie for 50%ers. all w feather down the outside of the leg.
bleeding color 4th generation blk creation from scratch. did mine for over 6 gens and they still had color in the hackle on the males. but it turned to red, deep red. that was a good step closer.
peter
Thank you Peter...I appreciate all the input and information trying to help with my projects. Leaky color so far has been a deep bronzy-red, so maybe that's a bonus instead of showing a cream or gold color

hi Peter, here's my answer to your survey.
A) 2 reds
B) 1 slightly white
C) 6 enameled (3 can hardly be seen unless you tried hard to get through their muffs-all 3 are related)
i am waiting for the offspring to get older to check on their beards and ear lobes. so far my 3 remaining boys (Hat Trick lines) have decent beards showing but their foot feathering is slightly lacking and some have too many points. i noticed only one i hatched had a crooked 5th toe but it is now pointing in the right direction and whoever gets him i will let them know about the toe issue.
my other pullet from the Oxley boy-aka Mosey, crossed over Kiva seems to have wonderful foot feathering but her beard when she hatched has not fully feathered back in and i am hopeful it will come back.
she had promise and i am hoping that will come back with her beard!
On our way home from Illinois and finally talked mom into drivin!! Heehee. Leisha you and hubby were awesome!! Thanks so much for all the info, picking gorgeous birds for us, an the " packing peanuts" for that empty hole in my box!! Ha. I definitely didn't com home empty handed!! I came to pick up 2 trios and came home with them plus my daughter ended up with 3 extra babies (how'd that happen Leisha!!!!)and 2 call ducks. Also 2 four bird show crates and a bunch of other poultry paraphernalia. Plus mom came home with 2 pairs of bantam buckeyes and some more stuff! We look like the Beverly hillbillies coming home. Can't wait to get there and get everyone settled in. Everyone make plans RIGHT NOW to attend the 2011 nationals!! Thanks again Leisha. Really enjoyed visiting.
and my daughter has become quite attached to the little 4 month old pullet we got. I have a feeling she will be extra spoiled. They are all so stinkin cute!!

Thats great! I miss my birds now. Did you just get three more salmons or some other colors to? How did Leisha do at the show or should we let her tell us herself when she gets the chance hope you both took lots of pictures and take some of the new birds.
Yes. All salmon. She gave my daughter the three 2 month olds left in her swap pen. She said one of the cockerels may turn out good. I don't need any more colors of anything!! I'm gonna do good to keep up with what I've got going. Buff and BBS orps and then the 2 fav trios. Sheesh!! What have I got myself into!!??
ETA - I forgot to answer the rest of the questions!! I had my camera and was too busy gawking and talking I didn't take a single pic! My intention was to take pics of the winning birds and have them to use as reference. But I will take pics of everyone in the next few days to post. As far as the show... I'll let Leisha tell you how she did because Im not exactly sure. She did take best of breed I think though. That being said....... PEOPLE!!!! YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT TO THE NATIONAL IN 2011!!!! We need to make a good showing and show other chickeners that the favs rock!!! A cute little brahma took featherleg grand but we all know what shoulda won!!!!! The judge did tell her that she had him thinking which is good. Make 'em work! Ha.
