I almost lost all 3 of them this morning. I had them in a temporary pen outside so I could clean out their home. I heard squawking from everyone so I went out to see what was wrong and found a dog running the fence trying to get at them! No idea who this mutt belongs to but I'm trying to find out. I managed to chase him off before he got Ron's birds. Unfortunately he did manage to get one of Dick's roos, maimed another and a 3rd is missing. I'm giving the injured boy a chance to see if he improves but I may have to cull him in a couple days if there's no improvement.

Sorry to hear about the dog attack kill him if he comes back! Luckly its been a while since I lost a bird to a predator but its a terrible feeling luckly my dogs have been good at keeping the fox out and the birds have learned to run from hawks. Hope you find a way to keep the dog from coming back,

Be thankful it is only the roos...if it is the hens, it would have been really awful!

Last night, hubby was putting the shed together and an owl was watching nearby! Beautiful bird but no idea of the type, looks juvy, mostly cream white with black or dark brown V's in breast feathers. It was a good sized owl. It scared hubby a bit because of the shadow flying behind him from the street light made him look up on the wires and there it sat. I came out with the camera, flashed a few times and it was not fazed by the presence or the flashes.

I know we found ONE field mice under our coop when we tore the floor out. We had to replace the floor because the brick pavement stunk into the ground, exposing the wood to run off dirt and mice bringing in their goodies, gnawed the floor, and thanks to them they made me some rich compost along with bugs and some larvae (looks like maggots but they were dead). Now the floor is off the ground by concrete footings. Had to use the rubber truck mat because the horse rubber mat were no longer in stock in our livestock stores. UGH!

Sorry to hear about your birds. We live out in the country... and I see dogs wandering about all the time. Even though our property is fully fenced... and the chickens are actually double fenced... I still worry.
This morning we heard lot's of crazy barking out on the street... evidently one of our neighbors was trying to walk their dogs and encountered some loose dogs that would not let up. They called animal control and the police out. I wonder when people will learn to keep their animals on their property... perhaps after having to pay some very hefty fines to get their dogs out of lock up... I hope! It's is really frustrating not to be able to take a walk or take my son on a bike ride because of these irresponsible owners who don't seem to care.
Again, I'm so sorry to hear about your birds.
