Not a problem Misty I really hope that your doing better now! I will be getting some new hens should have 10 hens and pullets laying this spring and two males! So I should be well supplied with eggs. Hope its not a sex linking thing if it was though Dick and Jeanine would probably be experiencing the same thing.

I suspect it's Marek's though I can't explain why it hits the girls harder. I lost one roo, but it was the red one who was always much smaller than the rest.

Last year I hatched out 4 Langshan pullets. Same thing happened to 2 of them, at about the same age. I had one necropsied (I almost had a heart attack because they were in with my Sussex) but they couldn't find a definitive cause of death. The findings did suggest a strong possibility of Marek's. All the others were fine, and still are.

Cindy, I'm not sure if you're talking about my two girls that were so heavily bearded that they couldn't see to eat. I know about Mareks and Luekosis extensively. This is not what I'm experiencing. I think 1 of the pullets is so damaged she may not come back. If you determine mareks vaccinate for it. Luekosis is a different matter.

I think Cindy may be having problems with Mareks but not sure. She is loosing birds with no signs of anything else going on and they are normal weight. Most have been females I think. Hope your pullet pulls through Peter I just PMed you about some other things a project I am doing on Faverolles specifically.

My point exactly. You can miss out on a bird that should be used to even perpetuate himself by being too quick in getting rid of senior males cause ya think they aren't of use anymore.

DavLyn, I think thats right. Forgive me if not. Thanks. He was a very special bird all the way around. His blood runs in one of my hens. I am tapping that big time.
Peter

He is very handsome Peter! Glad you still have some of his genetics in your flock. Thanks for showing us a real picture of the changes between those ages! I will make sure to keep my males for longer now because of your advice.
