Top one is a pullet. I'd lean towards cockerel on the bottom chick. You'll know for sure when the body feathers come in. A boy will have black body feathers.

The first one is definitely a pullet. The second, I'm leaning towards cockerel because of the lack of tail feathering. The pullets often seem to get their tail feathers more quickly.
Here is a pic of my 2 week olds. In these you can see a marked difference in the pullet and cockerel coloring. The pullet is in the foreground. Behind and to the left (standing) is the cockerel. Behind the cockerel is another pullet, almost obscured except for her tail feathers - a lot more than the cockerel has.
Wow, I don't have any that are as dark as your cockerel. Guess that is why I am confused. I thought the difference would be more obvious. Out of six chicks I have no dark ones, just two that look like the bottom one I posted.

Some of the boys are a bit lighter then others, though I am not sure if this has anything to do with their final coloring. I had a cockerel so light I thought he was a pullet but he feathered out just as dark as his father a month or so later. You have some cute chicks though , I love those little silkies peeking over everyone's shoulders to get in the shot.

Yeah, I have another batch that are a week younger. Their coloring/sex is much less obvious. One day I think cockerel (4 of them!) and the next I'm not so sure. As usual, time will tell. I'm going to take some pics every week for a few weeks to have for future reference.
Ok, now, putting up those pics is great for all of us to learn from, but it's also just mean!
Could they get any cuter? I can't seem to find any of the favs I want! Seriously, it is fascinating to seethe color change so early - if only other breeds could do the same!
On another topic, is there a book - maybe really old, about Faverolles? I find very little in poultry books about them, even though they are an old breed. Thanks!

i agree, the first is a pullet. the second one looks like it could be a cockerel. he has too much black showing up in the wings right now. if you can look on the neck for some dark feathers starting to grow in then you have a boy! the girls will usually feather in quicker on the shoulders and breast than the boys.
