Faverolles Thread

The younger boy seems polite so far it really made me mad and he got a good smack and now he has to live in the chicken tractor instead of the nice big coop. I am going to do some sets of eggs from just the pure salmons and then all the girls will go in with the new boy and the old boy will be gone.

Henry

Ah, but you intend to sell me all of the eggs you get, right? My hatch last month was a bust, with one bird half-hatched with NO FEATHERS OR FLUFF on the lower half of the body! I was relieved to find it had passed (still not fully hatched) when I looked an hour later, as I can't imagine not culling a bird like that.

It was a bad hatch, but the eggs had arrived with giant air cells, so I was hesitant from the get-go.

I NEED FAV EGGS!!!

I will try all of the eggs for the next two weeks are already reserved and then I am going to hatch but once I've set my hatch I can defently do a batch of eggs.

i made a mistake yesterday, i thought i would put another basket in the pen i was keeping Chloe and Kiera in to see if Kiera would sit on the new eggs since she was sooo interested in Chloe and her clutch of eggs. Chloe jumped off her 8 eggs and was on the newly received 8 from McCallum when i came back from visiting my mom.

Chloe has been on her 8 eggs for the last 2 weeks and i just got around to candling them all! all 8 were developing but one i noticed had a huge air cell and it was cracked so i broke it thinking maybe it was a half formed dud. oooh, i was wrong, the embryo was about an inch long and looked like it had already formed it's limbs.

i moved most of the new eggs out from under her and put them in the incubator, placed the other 7 eggs back under her and now i'm hoping the 7 eggs will hatch by next weekend.

does anyone know if she hatched out this group of eggs how soon i might be able to put more eggs under her again?

Sorry Chloe is acting up. How many eggs did you fit under her? I would worry that she would get up and take care of her babies after she hatches the first 7 eggs but I am not sure.

I wish, too -- since I don't have an incubator, I have to wait for my hens to start going broody (and I've already talked with Cloverleaf Farm -- I'll be getting eggs from her EVENTUALLY, LOL! It's hard to be patient, though!).

I would do it but I really just don't have room. I am going to try and hatch 40 or so of my faverolles and I also have swap eggs and a few blrw bantams already in the bator.

Henry

Thanks Henry. I just checked and there's two bids already...

And yeah, I totally get the "no more room" thing, because I want some of yours so bad!!! SOMEDAY I will have more room and more coops, and then I WILL have some!!

i decided to bring in my bantam cochin Luna and have her hatch out the 8 from McCallum instead. this way i can keep your eggs separate from those when they hatch, and Chloe can sit on the 7 she's been brooding so well over these past 2 weeks. so a final count of 7 under Chloe, 8 under Luna, and 9 in the bator=24.

oooh, Cloverleaf, i may check out your auction and keep an eye on it. though my DH keeps telling me 'no more room', but that is just in the amount of birds i have!
