Cockerels have wing feathers that look like this:

Pullets look like this:

The one in the forefront that is trying to dust bathe in the towel is a pullet. The yellow chick in the back (on the left with black on wing) is a cockerel.

Often, but not always, the cockerels will feather in more slowly than the pullets, especially the tail feathers. Hope this helps.

The one I have is 2 weeks old and already has tail feathers and the wing feathers are really light. YESSSSSSS I have a girl. Yippie. It was the only one to hatch from some I eggs I put under a broody that decided to leave the nest.

The Curator of Living Collections apparently kept them in his personal flock when he lived in Arizona, and wants to "make a difference in terms of preserving an important breed."

I've never been to the High Desert Museum myself (Bend is never the "destination," it seems) but we will plan a day trip over there this summer sometime once the flock is established.

Did you get salmon or blue salmon eggs? I have some blue salmons due to hatch in a week. So far all of them are developing.

SUPER, am excited for both of You!!! I have one each that hatched last week as well and 2 LF blues from Melissa. Have a 3yo Pontius hen and her 2yo daughter by a LF White fav. too. Jeanine, my chicks are not showing sexy colors yet, but would be interested if you chose to sell a Pontius sex i don't have..... :)

Have one lovely pullet by the blue/splash pair i have from you....Am using her as nanny with the other wee chicks younger than her...(2 hatchery LF Favs. 3 Buckeyes, and one of Jeans black Ameraucana chicks.......)

PS There is a Tacoma lady on Craigs list that is selling Salmon chicks for 18.00 each. said she purchased the parents from someone in Oregon who belongs to the Favarolle group....asked her if its You. Couldn't remember the other Oregon breeders that were at the Monroe show....Didn't they take Champion Continental? with their Roo????

VBG, I thought to ask if that was a typo since 6-8 is more the norm for *special* chicks... She did seem nice enough but when i asked what other breeds she had they were all those in current dollar favor. She confirmed last night that her Favs came from Jeanine.

Am sure those of you who have put the time in can be humored that when a breed becomes popular it is tagged *rare*, even thou the breed has been available for some time .....&..... knowing that not all chicks from show quality parents beget show quality.

When You get a chance to visit, save time for the Peterson Rock Museum and one of the biggest farm stores ( Big R) in Redmond, Or. and Smith Rock near Terrbonne, Or. Sounds far from each other but isn't.....Sisters is a fun lil town too with a great quilt store. Sisters, Redmond, Bend, form a triangle about 20 miles each way, Terrbonne is north of Redmond about 10 minutes.
