Faverolles Thread

When trying to get the 4 5 6 pointed combs watch your females. You do go for the happy medium. If you have 6 pointed females and you can find a 4 pointed male yes it evens out. Same on the opposite combo.

Oh, Thanks! :)

Is there any way I could get Columbian marked chicks out of my Faverolles? I think my Columbian Rock rooster got into the breeding pen at some point if not.....

I have some 5 week old chicks that are really nice looking for Favs, but they are white with black markings on their tails, and necks. Sounds a little bit too close to Columbian to me. Do white sports ever show this much color as babies?

Also. Does anyone have any hatching eggs available right now? The eggs I got shipped didn't do very well in transit, so I have lots of room. If anybody who has Faverolle eggs, also has cochins or BLRW I would be interested in getting those too. :)

Thanks

Sounds like Columbian to me also. I'm not sure about white sports, but I do know Columbian will show with only one dose of the gene. Like these. I have chick pics of them also but at the moment can't find them.

HI, i think that i asked about the Columbian [pattern befoe. (may have called it incorectly something else). But in doing a color cross with another color/breed roo over a Salmon hen....out of about 15, 1 was salmon roo colored and the balance were 1/2 barred/flecked Columbian patterned and the other half solid brown, sort of partridge. All had muffs and 5 toes. eliz

I'm picking up my LFs today!! I'm getting 4 pullets and 1 cockerel that are Patterson stock and 1 hatchery cockerel extra (we'll see what happens with him

). I've been waiting on these babies since November at the Shawnee National.
Y'all have heard me talk about my friend Keith who is a poultry reproductive specialist at the U of A here. He does projects to improve breeds. When I mentioned I wanted some LF favs he thought they sounded like a good new project for him so we talked to johnathan at Shawnee and he got to work on getting some breeding pens put back together for us. So finally in February or so the girls were making good enough for Keith to make the long trip (in the snow) to the Pattersons. Looooong drive..... Well out of 40 eggs only like 9 hatched. So he was holding them long enough to sex but then (being the busy professor/university poultry project guy) our schedules just haven't worked out to get them to me (he lives about 4 hrs away). But some other friends of ours (who only live 30 min from me) went up Sunday to pick up some other birds and so brought my crew back with them and are now holding them hostage. Soooo I'm going to pick them up this evening. Woohoo!!! Talk about a long wait!!!

Hm. Anybody need any Columbians? I wouldn't mind shipping them if someone needed them for a breeding program. They aren't purebred but I'll watch them for Faverolle qualities till their bigger. They are the biggest babies in the group, so it's very unlikely that they bred with my Columbian bantam. They probably bred to my big Columbian Rock boy.

Thanks

I believe it's called Ermine for Faverolles. Not sure though. I thought Ermine was a calico color. There are so many chicken colors. :)

Hm. No browns. I do have one girl who is a big white baby and has red/brown smudges on her wings and tail. I do have a white sport rooster I've been experimentally breeding, but he wasn't breeding (that I knew of) in April. He only started breeding and crowing a lot a couple of weeks ago at 8 months old. I might get some photos today...

Thanks

I got a better look at the chicks. There are two cockerels and one pullet. Turns out only one cockerel has the columbian on his neck. The other two just have the brown on their tail and wings.

Rooster 2 ( I think... Haha, maybe it is a girl...

Any ideas?
