Not sure she might be somewhere in between mahogany and salmon. It doesn't look like she has lacing like most salmons do but it might just be the picture.

I think he is a wheaten Ameraucana rooster I just checked out the Ameraucana thread and there was a video of him. I do believe Melissa has a flock of Mahogany Favs though.

I had Mahogany Favs last year... a coyote killed my roo while he was defending his hens. I have sold off some of the hens but still have a few covered by a Salmon Roo... the color is still amazingly dark in the pullets from them but the roos revert to Salmon... Mahogany is actually a wild type color in the roos and seems to breed out in a generation. I can only offer Mahogany as part of an egg purchase but if someone does not want them I just take the hens out on the day I collect eggs for that person... so simple. I do not have any way to exclude whites... they are a recessive in my line since I introduced the Pontius birds last year. I am not sure which of my hens has the recessive so don't know who to exclude... It would be a project to figure it out... My blue roo does not carry recessive white so I could potentially get all salmon/blue salmon by excluding the other roo... but housing does not allow for that right now and when you hve two roos that share a space peacefully it is hard to want to separate them. They even co-manage the flock. I love how sweet and peacefull these chickens are.

That is grat news Henry! We had 10 people last year who hatched every egg they received... we even thought about doing some kind of reward for them... but haven't come up with a way to make it work.

To be honest Melissa if all 14 of these actually hatch they might take over from the bantams

I love my little faverolles but great LF are harder to come by and are much more usefull. When I come back from college I want to find a great bloodline of usefull birds not show birds. I think I will keep some bantams at least 10 hens probably in another small coop and I will keep a flock of either whites or the best trio of salmons and blue salmons. I will also try and get my hands on a few of Rose Isgirgs stock. Do you know of anyone else with great LF faverolles?

I candled my eggs from Melissa this morning (day 10). 5 of the 7 Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas are developing and 13 of 14 of the Faverolles are developing, though 1 is questionable and 1 has the air cell on the bottom. I think that's awesome for shipped eggs! I plan to hatch in egg cartons but I think I'm going to put the one with the air cell on the bottom on its side on the wire and hope for the best. 11 more days . . .

The Faverolles Fanciers of America is still active and has a couple of meets a year at least. There are breeders of quality birds associated with the club.

Very good for shippeds. A lot of folks don't realize when they see the numbers what shipped eggs usually produce. In example I recently had someone ask me for 2 of each variety because they want a girl and a boy of each breed, fully expecting that every egg would hatch and that I could sex them in shell. Now there was a minute spent in educaton!

Well we will see what I end up with I am thinking a larger flock of bantams and a small breeding flock of either blue salmons or whites.
