Faverolles Thread

Wow, that is cold! I thought it was cold here in western washington last night - it was a balmy 28 degrees!

9.9° @2:30 Here

It was 10F this morning (was supposed to be 0F) and 10F at 3 PM. -2F at 6:30 PM, supposed to get to -16F tonight. The girls were fine in the barn today, choosing to not go out in the snow. Don't blame them since they have plenty of space in the barn. Why go out and get cold feet?

Still at -1.5 @ 9:30 here! We need a 'post todays temperature, how many eggs you got & the persevering breed that laid them thread' Whoever gets the lowest temp and most eggs wins. But what should the prize be? An insulated egg basket? Maybe an trophy of an egg made out if ice ;)
I already lost, I didn't get one single egg today. Someones probably done it already anyway.

That sounds like fun! ( the thread, not the -1.5) When I looked at the temp right before work it showed 27 and we are supposed to get up to 45 today. When I left the birds were walking around in the frost covered run. We have a mixed flock of 17 layers and got 7 eggs yesterday, 5 the day before. That has been our lowest numbers so far this winter and some of them are Fav eggs.

Okay, I did it. I did a search and couldn't find a thread about temps and egg # so I started one. I would post the link but I don't know how. I put it in the chicken behavior and egg laying forum and titled it "Today's temperature=# of eggs". So you guys could do a search and join if you like. Should be interesting to see what parts of the world are actually getting eggs right now.

I posted my low temp last night, -15.2°
My Faverolles are roosting outside in the solarium instead of the main coop. My little silkie hens roost with them, well, UNDER them lol. You cant even see them under all that Faverolle fluff! I checked on them last night, and they are warm as toast. Amazing

Anyone seen this yet? I found it on another thread. Supposedly MPC used Faverolles to create their own designer breed - the Favaucana.

Except for this link I can't find anything about it on MPC's site though.

Very cool! I'd like to find out more about them too. I was thinking of putting a couple of my Ameracunas in with the faverolles for breeding this spring...
