Faverolles Thread

Thanks Sandi... Very kind. That Dorking cross is beautiful.

When are other people worming? Spring and fall but how early spring?

Yeah he is such a pretty boy, fairly friendly also... good thing too, or he might have been bound for freezer camp.

As for worming, I did everybody 2 weeks before the show w/ Fenbendazole and will be following up w/ Eprinex in another couple of weeks (good for leg and biting mites) that covers all but feather mites, which DE and spray I regularly use keep in check.

Sorry about that! I'm really horrible with names. I'm lucky I rememer my own some days...
No Worries, Its hard for me to remember everyone's names here because of the avatar names.

. Besides, You shared birds with both of us at the same time............Regardless, i am so greatful that you allowed me to bring the blacks home.....Love the blacks, love their peaceful personality.....and i promise to help share them with others.........I do not believe that Pam Maynard's BBS are related nor will the ones that Jeanine is developing now. I'm not sure about the origin of Chickenonthehill, but hopefully the numbers will grow so maybe they can eventually be recognized too.

I am so happy he didn't end up in "freezer camp":D

I sent eggs to Dick, he hatched them and crossed my line into his. You might ask him if your blacks are a product of that cross or just his line. I'm not sure when you got them.

I got them from Dick, almost a year ago. I do know he had some from you but the ones I remember were blue?

Now for the really bad news. My bf killed my favorite salmon pullet, the "light" one. She was II this close to getting a name.
I'm so sad to hear that.... I have some eggs available, if you'd like. This will be my first year to have some eggs worth hatching, it would be interesting to see what you get.

I don't have any waiting list, so if you're interested let me know. I would send them for the cost of shipping alone....Now might be too cold for shipping, not sure.....

That is a blow. I have to leave town in a couple of weeks to see my family, for about 3 weeks and I'm scared to death to leave my birds

(Is that crazy?!)

You asked about worming. I think I'm going to worm mine right before I leave so the eggs will be good by the time I get back - I choose not to eat the eggs for a few days after, some people don't care either way.....Plus, if either of my Marans girls decides to sit again this year I want the eggs to be good for hatching.

He's gorgeous :) I'm glad you found a good spot for him..... Oh, congrats on your show girl! Very nice!

I need to get some Eprinex..... I think a couple of my boys have leg mites, they've all but chewed their leg fluff off

I powdered them with poultry dust, but I need to go ahead and worm anyway....Funny thing is, it's only the boys doing the chewing.....

I sent a mix of blue and black. I know he used a big black male and possibly a blue to cross into his line for confirmation and size. I can't remember. It would be nice to know what their lineage is though. That makes you, thechickenonthehill, and me that have Dicks stock. Margaret Hamilton has mine as do I. And Jeanine is making her own line right?? What is she using to make them? Do you know?

Thanks for commiserating. I do worry about the birds even when I am here. It is so cold here right now I brought the ducks in for Tub Time so they could actually hang out in water and get clean. I wish I could do more for chickens right now but keeping them in is the best so far. Its about 20-25degrees warmer inside than out and still darn cold in there. I guess if you all are worming now I can feel alright doing it. Thanks.

I've heard from a judge/breeder of about 40 years that if you use Frontline it works on everything topical including the leg mites.
