Faverolles Thread

I was just wondering what everyones experience on broodiness is with faverolles. So far I have heard different things from everyone. I tried to hatch out a few standard Cochins to use as broodies, but it looks like the postal service has done a number on those eggs and none seem to be developing. I've tried silkies, but they seem to not be fit for the environment here, they get lost too easy with all the shrubs and their fluff in their face. I am just so tired of worrying about incubator failure and cleaning brooders all the time and would much rather have one of the ladies hatch and raise babies for me naturally. I have a few Cornish girls I was hoping to use, but they have been trouble makers, roosting in trees at night and leading the flock into neighbors yards.
I don't know about the faverolles but people have said orpingtons are good to use as broodies. Maybe try to get your hands on some cochins, a lot of people swear by them. Right now I have a Columbian Wyandotte who has gone broody and isn't even a year old. I wouldn't pick that breed though because I don't thing they are known for that trait. I think I just have a weirdo. Maybe some sort of silkie cross would work better? I have two easter egger/silkie crosses that I am hoping turn out to be good broodies and neither one of them has much of a crest so they can easily see where they are going :).

Sounds good, I have one little Orp pullet, she has been pretty motherly with my boyfriends younger Denizli chick, keeping her warm and keeping her tucked under a wing, too cute. Maybe she will be my broody, she is such a sweet bird and should start laying very soon. She is a bantam, but the English type and almost as big as my LF hens and so very fluffy.
I tried hatching some Cochins, but they didn't develop, I think the eggs froze on the way during one of the random cold snaps.
My friend just got her first egg from her birds and she has Silkies, Ameraucanas and Faverolles, maybe she will hatch something broody for me

Hello Fav peeps! I needed a break from BYC for a while, but I'm trying to come back a bit, and will try to be around to post. If I missed anything really important, let me know, otherwise, I'll catch up on posts as I go... :)

OK, pretty much caught up.....I have to admit that I didn't read EVERY post, but I scanned every page, and read a lot...lol

To address a couple things:

I have started a black LF line. I got a black (HUGE) pullet from piperomar (Laurel) that was a by-product of her lavender Fav line that she's working on, and then I took a very large black bantam cock over 2 huge salmon hens. I will likely bring in Orpington at some point again, but am crossing the offspring of the black bantam male and salmon hens with the Orp/Fav girl this season.

The rest of what I have going on:

Black, blue, and splash bantams
Buff bantam project is ongoing
Salmon bantams
And yes, I have the one dominant white pullet that survived the disaster, she is in with a black cockerel, and as soon as she starts laying again, everything she lays will be set.
The second generation of my son's partridge bantam project have started laying, so we'll be setting those soon as well.

Salmon large fowl. Just picked up two new pullets from Bridget Riddle last weekend, one pullet from Peter is in the breeding pen, and will start hatching from that pen soon too.

:) Here's what I picked up at the Stockton show last weekend:
