Faverolles Thread

I was wondering if anyone had some good qualty bantam SF eggs for sale. I would like to get some that is from SQ stock. I have bantams and I am looking to add some new blood. If you have some eggs please let me know. Thanks!!!!!!

I was tickled to see the favs are growing into their attitude stage. The pullet and cockerel were 'fighting' to see who was really wearing the pants. It was tame and they didn't hurt each other (I stay to watch this kind of thing to be sure. It helps me learn about who is who and as long as they are not seriously hurt I let it go.) I think there was a bit of a stale mate today.

OK. I have to ask. What does everyone use for mites with their Favs. Not leg mites.... the mite that are everywhere! This is my second year getting them and the Favs always get it the worst and I just have such a hard time getting rid of them.

I am not a big fan of chemicals but if it works without being too hard on the bird I am willing. Just asking on here because my Favs have the worst time.

What all colors do favorelles come in?How often would you say that they are born with only 4 toes? What color is their skin? What color eggs do they lay. What is their body shape? What color are their legs feet shanks?(sorry for all the questions.I am thinking of using favorelles in making new colors in d'uccles and wanted to use something witg large beards, feathered legs single combs, similar body, and of course different colors, and trying to get them with only 4 toes. Those
would probably be easy to get from breeders since they are supposed to have 5.)

Poularde, If it were me, I would use Ivomectin pour on for the birds. It may help the mites that get on the birds. I would totally clean out the coop and find the proper insecticide and spray every inch of the coop. Unfortunately, this is a warm weather project. Diatomaceous earth or Sevin powder would be a dry form you could spread around the coop that might help until you can do a really thorough job. Good luck.

Hi, There are tons of color variations in D'uccles and not so many with the bantam Faverolles...... just my opinion, if D'uccles are what you want, you might be better off finding D'uccles that were close and breeding them towards your ideal. Five toes vs four toes, complete body style difference especially in males, Favs don't have vulture hocks, their wings are more horizontal, leg feathering & head style is different and anytime you mix in another breed you alter the attributes that make a particular breed what it is known for. I'm guessing breeding the best of your best will bring you farther than trying to remove non D'U traits down the line.
The one thing they do have in common is a sweet personality. www.feathersite.com shows many of the beautiful D'u color variations that have been shared so far......

I already am getting and have all the d'uccle colors available in the US and I have deffinetly tried to get them from other places.I wanted to make my own unique colors and i saw that facorelles dont have many colors bur their colors are impossible or hard to find in other birds.

Ivermectin pour on does work in short order and it is out of their systems quickly. I use it but it is not a complete clean up. I have had to battle this twice this year when I bought a new SQ bird from a breeder whose birds had it! What a nightmare every since. A judge and breeder told me that for long term protection he uses (and recommended) Frontline.

I'm a big fan of Frontline myself - the kind in the spray bottle. Not cheap, but it lasts forever since you only use a tiny bit per bird. I never found the powders to work, although I have a heavy hand with the DE whenever I do a coop and run clean-up, just as a preventative.
