I was so excited to get some salmon faverolles as I had been wanting some for a long time! I ended up ordering mine from a hatchery though and I have to say I'm really dissapointed! The roos didn't even live a day. And as you can see in this pic of one of the pullets they are SO dark! The other pullet is even darker. It almost has the color of one of my rhode island reds. I was expecting the light tan/cream. These have a little of it on their underbelly and that's about it. They don't really have the fluffy beards either. The birds themselves are very sweet and friendly but I was more interested in getting some that were more like I'd read they would be. Is there a chance they'll look better after a molt or two? Should I just save up and invest in some from a breeder that knows what their doing?

I'm in Michigan.... and have around 22 chicks and counting if your needing some nice Faverolles to ad to your flock?

I've never tried hatching my own eggs. I've never been able to afford an incubator! My two banty hens just hatched two chicks out in the coop, but that's the most experience I've had!

If I thought they'd continue being broody or would do it again soon I'd consider putting some eggs under them but I don't know how much eggs cost and I'd hate to spend the money and not have any hatch. I haven't been able to find anyone close to me that has salmon favs as chicks or even older birds. That's part of the reason I'm so dissapointed with what I got. I was hoping to breed them to have a few I could sell to others around here that can't find them. I was hoping to do this with some mottled houdans too but those also died within the first day. I can't find any more of those either.

I agree, it's irritating they can't do a better job!

LOL, I haven't bought a bator because I'm too busy to play "momma" to a bunch of chicks! But, broodies work really well

That's how I do it

Eggs usually go for $20 to $35 a dozen, depending on who you buy from - their level of experience and quality of birds.....My birds aren't always "to standard" but they usually turn out good, something to work with.....I'll tell ya what, if you're ladies get broody again, send me a pm and we'll work something out - You'll be the first fav breeder in your area!

Do they go broody a lot at from your personal experience? My baby is only 10weeks old and she's so sweet and docile, slowly introducing her and my other babies to the flock and my one silkie totally attacted her and their the same size right now too. I really wanted her specifically to go in with the silkies because of her docile nature but I guess that won't happen LOL. So off to figure out another group combo.

Can anyone tell me what to look for in selecting a Salmon Faverolle Cockerel to grow out? I have 4 and hope to keep the best one. I will try to get pics tonight but wondered if I could get a description.

Do not introduce one or two new hens to the flock, introduce one or two of the flock to your new hens in the new hens pen. It works better that way. Then they are sort of on new turf and the older hens are not as fiesty. I usually introduce one old hen to the mix a wk for about three wks adding as I go, and then introduce them all back to the flock together. That way there is more than new hens coming back to the flock. It seems to help. I hope this helps someone else . this information was given to me by Joletabye a long time ago and it works for me.
