Faverolles Thread

Hi there

- I don't know anybody who breeds white favs, but if I'm correct, you have a rare bird! Not too many of them around..... Where did you get your eggs?

There are others here that know more than I about the whites and who breeds them, maybe they'll see this and chime in.

Oh yeah, I applaud your change of lifestyle! Farming is a lot of work, and there's never a dull moment

Yes, they can go broody although I haven't seen it in them yet. :) Yeah, I am quite happy about this! :)

P.S Please, call me Mitch :)

Thank you for chiming in...I really appreciate the encouragement! It's been weird transitioning since a year ago I had no plan of being a farmer...lol not to mention, the dairy sheep were a big enough learning curve without an anomaly chick. I got them from McMurrays so I had low expectations, but since it's July, they never chilled and were all beautiful and healthy :) I just wanted a couple types of broody chickens that would reproduce on their own, showing rare birds isn't my thing really. I do have more rare meat rabbits too though so maybe it was meant to be...so far she's a beautiful bird and matches my other white farm animals :)

That is so cute!! Would love to get a white one :)

I wonder how you sex white ones though? Are the roosters still coloured or white too[/quit
The males are white also, but I think she's a pullet because of her comb and wing fullness at 3 and a half weeks. She is a lil smaller and slower producing feathers than the other 9 tho. I'm praying all this smoke here doesn't affect their lil lungs!

I may as well also state how thankful I am with my pullet percentage on the straight run order for the favs... I only got 3 roos :)

Ron Patterson has LF whites. Unfortunately a predator got all but a juvenile pair last season so he's having to rebuild. I know that because Daniel (fancychickenlover) has a white LF hen and talked to him about getting some eggs. So now Daniel is using one of Sandy's Fav/Dorking males with her to try to get more whites. Haven't heard from him in a while so not sure how that is going.

Only other one I can think of who gets recessive whites from time to time is pasofinofarm in TX. I have no idea if she is still offering eggs.

I am a newbie to Favs as well. All I know is they are so cute and soft.

. We have a mixed flock and they do tend to be a little skittish/passive as far as working into the pecking order. They would rather just get out of the way than try to dominate. The only ones I see them standing up to is eachother. The only rule on this thread is that you must post pics as soon as possible.

What is your hatch date?

I talked to Daniel and he hasn't had fertile eggs so far... :-(

I saw that Texasgal posting about the whites early in this thread, like a few years ago, maybe I'll look her up since Daniel is a no go for now... There was also a guy in Portland worth nice faverolles, he hasn't posted in a year though...
