Congratulations!
I've been hunting mahogany faverolles on here, but haven't had any luck at finding any yet.

i think sandhills poultry has some, they sell $5 per chick plus shipping. don't know if they are shipping any right now it's too hot or if they still sell them.

I checked sandhill out recently and I was turned away when I learned you had to buy at least 25 chicks and that only 10 of them could be mahoganies. Plus I read on a forum that they are really hard to get from sandhill, and if you do get them they may come with some problems. So I thought it best to try and find some hatching eggs from a reliable breeder instead.
I don't really get why these birds are so hard to find? It looks like they would at least be available from one well known hatchery like mcmurray. It just really baffles me and worries me that if someone doesn't do something fast there may not be any around at all.

Yeah faverolles are all around endangered. I'm thinking of getting some from there if I can't find any breeders either. I've seen some posts about mahogany faverolles on this thread

My original Mahoganies came from Sandhill, and i didn't have any problems. I also have 2 lovely young pairs from eggs from BYCer, ChickenOnThe Hill, More & more folks are starting to raise and make them better, i think bantams too. There are a huge amount of different chickens out there. But not every type is good for each persons purposes. Some folks become dedicated to a breed or after having a few deciding that maybe certain ones just don't fit. Chickens are subject to fads too and hatchery's would have a hard time keeping up with whats salable from year to year if they didn't try to do just what seems to have a following on a more stable basis.
There have been breeds and colors that have faded and then been re-created. There has been a big surge in the color of the day which usually comes from adding another close breed with the desired color characteristics…... There is always a risk when that happens of losing some of what made that chicken special….Egg laying duration, ability, broodiness, cold hardy, meat qualities, temperment, just to add a color.
Regarding Sandhill, i think they are one of the few that does not kill their extra or unwanted chicks and most hatcheries do require a group to help keep them warm in the mail.

Sandhill also hatches all their own chicks. So their supply is up to the whims of their breeders. Many people these days get frustrated ordering from them because they expect online ordering and an exact shipping date. Sandhill does not work that way and they aren't going to change. If you want to order from them be patient.

As to why mahoganies are hard to find, there is a small number of good, dedicated breeders of the accepted varieties of Faverolles as it is. Whites are almost nonexistent. Salmons are more common but in the past couple of years 2 long time breeders have let their flocks go. There are blues and blacks but their numbers are small as well.

Elizmartin will you be selling eggs this year or next?
I have just begun this year with test breeding to see what i have with many thankyous to several breeders whom i have received stock and valuable information. Right now only some are laying but i would hesitate to sell any eggs because i am not sure of fertility with the hot weather blitz we just had. Possibly in the Fall but all colors would be in a project classification. fyi,I am not NPIP nor do i vaccinate at this time….. Thanks for being interested, eliz

Here is one of my 3,5weeks old chicks. That yellow one is mixed breed, 50% faverolles. They all are very sweet and noisy!
I think that all of chicks are roos maybe but their colours are still mystery. They have these grey/black/brown feathers so if they are roos they don't look salmons. They wasn't yellow when they hatched, they were quite dark already. This one have bigger comb than another, lighter chick but lighter one get feathers maybe a little bit slower.

Well, they are cute anyway! :)
