Faverolles Thread

I'm not able to tell any difference in their combs right now. There may be some differences but I can't seem them. The non striped set all hatched a day early and have been big, rambunctious chicks from the get go. The stripers all hatched on their actual hatch day and have been smaller and not as vigorous but healthy and thriving. They had some difficulties hatching because they weren't positioned correctly in their shells and pipped the wrong end. I am not noticing much difference in tail set at this point. I know it is early to tell but I am trying to learn about the differences and train myself to see it a little better. Thanks!

There are literally hundreds of posts on this throughout the thread about sexing, with pictures you can compare to yours. (Yes, I know it's a huge thread.) . To me, it looks like you have mostly girls, but that could change in another week.

thanks mame1616. I've read every page of this thread. I've also seen all the pictures and even googled pictures not on this forum. I am still not sure. I guess it just takes a while to be able to see it. Just thought others might be able to show me why they look like they might be male or female and if my thoughts are on target.

Two weeks old is a BIT young to be able to tell for sure. I've had some I was sure were pullets that turned out to be cockerels, so I never say for sure until much later. It's hard to be patient, but look at it this way - Faverolles people know months earlier than other breeders what the sexes are. I bet they would love to only have to wait a month to know what they've got!

Just like weird coloration, i would mention any abnormalities to the hatcheries that they came from…apologize, most scissor beaks get to a point where they cannot eat and starve to death so if not too bad keep an eye out that he is getting enough food.
I have a replacement order coming from ideal. I think, to be honest, their stock/quality is quite pathetic. I received my order of 11 chicks. All supposed to be Pullets. I had to put one of my GlWs down immediately upon arrival for a severe case of crossbeak. I noticed it the second I opened the box. Any picker should have noticed. Two weeks later I found two more of my GLWs are Roos. I had two Salmon Favorelles in that order as well. They are doing alright, coloring is a but off, but they are pretty friendly.

I am thinking about ordering some salmon faverolles pullets in the spring to add to my flock. I am considering Meyer and Cackle Hatcheries. Anyone have experience with either?

have not ordered from hatcheries for many years…Cackles web-page implies that it also shows some of their birds….and the photos are decent Salmon….Anyone else for Meyer? Not knowing where You are located, maybe there is someone closer to You that breeds Faverolles?

I have three hens and one Roo. I am the only breeder I have found in my area. So hatcheries are looking like my only option.
