Faverolles Thread

I got Rhode Island Red, Pearl Leghorn, Buff Orpington, Jersey Giant, Easter Egger, Silver Laced Wyandottes, Barred Rock, and what appears to be a New Hampshire Red which was substituted for the Speckled Sussex I ordered. A friend and I are sharing the pullets so some breeds are ones she wanted to try and some were for me.

So relieved to know the slow feathering is normal for the faverolles. Thank you for your reply. Guess I just have to be more patient with those boys.

RIRs, EEs and Wyandottes can be bossy breeds in my experience.

As for the slow feathering, here is an example of 2 of my cockerels (non-hatchery) with some hatchery pullets the kids picked out. They are all the same age.

Now I feel much better. That is the sort of difference I'm seeing with mine. I won't worry now that I know it's normal.

My Fav chicks are so darling! Tiny little sweethearts already! They don't run away from me... they actually come up and circle my hand and rub across my palm! It looks like at least three of them have good color. One has a touch of breast ticking, and one... well... This is the one Mom thought was a cockerel. I think it's just a really mottled pullet. I guess one muddy one out of five isn't bad. Plus, my big Fav Gossie is good looking, so I think my starter flock is going to be pretty good! Now, to find a cock.........

You may want to wait another couple of weeks to see if this one turns out to be male. Pullets tend to have a more even color pattern even if they are badly colored.

Do all fav's have the extra toe, like silkies? We just got ours from mrsfritzdarcy, & boy are they sweet!! They are just getting acclimated to their new home..

The fifth toe is a breed requirement. Birds without the fifth toe should not be used for breeding.
