thanks for all the great info. I spoke to Melissa (PasoFino) and I was not able to work out the timing of getting chicks. I'm going to try again next year. Thank you for all the leg work.

I have a question about getting different breeds with the faverolle Chicken. This Saturday the hay and Feed Store is having chick day where they have hundreds of breeds of chicken at their store. I want to get 2 Easter Eggers 2 buff orpington and one silkie. Will those breeds mix well with the favorolle breed?

And my chickens are not very docile. They are docile to me they submit to me a lot but last time I introduced a buff orpington rooster and a buff orpington hen and they were more aggressive than I would have thought. So I'm not worried about my chickens that I currently have being picked on because I believe they can handle their own. I was just wondering what other breeds do you have that mix well with this chicken?

I have 3 easter eggers and they are not aggressive at all. They are the bottom of the pecking order in fact. They are a little flighty, they free range and I had to clip 2 of their wings and they not super friendly but you just can't beat those blue green eggs. My Easter Eggers are my favorite layers and they lay well. My 3 Buff Orpington's are not aggressive at all either and 2 of them almost seem like they wait for me to pick them up. I had a silkie roo and still have a silkie hen. The roo was beautiful but he was kind of a jerk to my little silkie hen so I gave him back to the breeder. My silkie hen is just about the sweetest thing there is. In my opinion, all the breeds you are talking about incorporating are very gentile and not aggressive at all. You need to avoid RIR or New Hampshire Reds as they are very dominant and can be aggressive with the other hens to make sure that they get first pick of all food, treats and even roost space. I have two and although they lay large brown eggs consistently I would not replace them. They are just not very nice to the other birds. I also have 3 speckled sussex hens and 2 are very friendly and let me pick them up, they are also not aggressive at all with the other birds. My SS roo was fairly sweet but when he turned 1 year old he became very aggressive so we had to use him for food.

I have a Faverolles pullet who helped to raise some of my meat birds. The one chick I put her with would follow her around, even when she escaped the coop. Faverolles are such good mothers to other chicks even when they didn't hatch them.

For the first time ever the hay and Feed store had salmon faverolle chicks! I already have four and can only have 4 more birds and I don't want all salmon faverolle but I was excited to see them :) I got six buff orpington and in June I'm getting easter eggers I'm giving away all but four just want enough incase a few don't make it

I am looking for some advice from those of you breeding Favs. I purchased a dozen eggs in 2014 and 8 hatched. Two of the 8 had badly curled toes. I removed those from the breeding goup and hatched out 8 chicks in 2015. One had curled toes and was removed from the breeding group.

I just hatched 6 chicks (with more hatching) and of those 6 two have curled toes. Argghh! Clearly one or more is continuing to pass this on. I feel like I should just scratch this whole group and start over. It seems like the only way I could know for sure which one it is if I pair each hen and hatch a number of eggs to see the results.

Any thoughts?
