Faverolles Thread

Yes that is definitely a roo. He’s a pretty boy! I have a no that looks to be about the same age as yours. Are you still going to keep him?

Thank you. At this point, yes. He has the most adorable waddle when he runs :gig

I have a bunch of Red Ranger/Dorking pullets I'd like to put him with.

My new Blue Salmon pullet and cockerel from Southgate Faverolles in TN. They are beautiful and quite the characters!

If you have some good salmons I'd pair them up with those blue salmons. Take the offspring of the hen and breed to the blue salmon male, and the offspring of the blue salmon male to the hen. Then you'd have enough genetic diversity to pair aunts/nephews and uncles/nieces along with father/daughter and mother/son. You can keep just salmon and blue salmon, or breed for splash salmons.

That is the plan I have been working out, a little complex but should indeed create a good spread of blue. With 2 Salmon hens it definately helps stave off inbreeding.

I'm not sure if you want to get wing bands, leg bands or a toe punch to keep everyone straight.

Once you do get hatching it may be tough to tell some of the blue salmon pullets from the salmon. Splash salmon pullets are easier but you won't have that possibility until you start breeding blue salmon x blue salmon. Splash salmon cockerels are easy too.

I'm actually hoping to lighten the blue my two have now. We are redoing the whole coop situation but I may split them into different "families" for now and refine from there. I'd like to stay away from wing or leg bands if possible.
