Faverolles Thread

i was thinking about getting one of those traps. but i'm afraid that my FIL usually catches squirrels in his when he's trying to catch larger animals. i know coyotes are open season in our area, i wonder if raccoons are considered 'open' year round too! my dh got his dad's bow restrung and tuned recently so i am hoping to target practice soon. having this happen will make me learn how to use it sooner!

i'm getting a really neat cross. a young pullet that is a faverolles crossed with a marans. it got the cuckoo coloring but it has the 5 toes, feathered down to it's outer toes and it looks to have the beard and muff growing in too! here's hoping it has the laid back personality of the fav and not the maran! now i just wish i had the LF favs to work with here!

I'm sooo jealous. You all live reasonable close it seems so you can do lots of swapping and oggling of each others birds. I'm lonely down here! Maybe I need to start a southern states faverolles coalition. OK. Sorry that was dumb. hehhehehe. I am jealous though.

Ha ha there are gonna be feathers flying when we get there hope he can dig up a girl for you. If not I can have my parents ship two girls up to you this fall they have shipped lots of birds for me while I was in highschool so they are pretty good at it. The splash pullets should lay by this fall as well so they could ship you a batch of eggs. They would be the neices and nephews of your birds and also some unrelated blacks if the hen is laying. We can talk when we are up there together.

I am probably closer to you then Dick. But the trip is well worth it even if my parents do think I am insane. They are just happy because I am taking so many chickens up with me. My Dad did. as how many I would being back and I said a few. He then asked for an exact number so he could double it

I love my family.

hehe! so he knows chicken math pretty well then?!

Heehee, didnt realize it was that far but I still think he's closer. It takes me almost 12 just to get to columbus, OH so I figure it quite a bit farther to the rest of you. On a different note, I'm planning on getting up to the fav nat'l in sept so hopefully will get to meet some of ya'll then!!

The raccoon who moved in on us several years ago was treed by our dog & DH did the rest. I hope yours see your bow & decide to move on & never return.

I'm glad to see you mention Fav Marans cross. I let a Marans hen in with Germaine, the lighter roo I got in April, because she begged

, the other hen went broody during our vacation & bit the chicken-sitter so he left her alone. I hope we get some pullets to sell and one to keep. They'll be big! The marans hen feels like 8 pounds, & the roo is 9+.
