Okay, so here a few pictures of my hatchery girls and roo #2

And just because it's so stinkin hot outside today, and houseworks all done here's a few more....I really need a hobby...lol

also, will beards grow in as they get older? they are only 5 1/2 weeks right now. And are roo's normally this dark? Roo #2 seems really black!

Only thing I can think of is one of the black hens is recessive for wheaten. The yellow chicks are feathering out similar to salmons, the cockerel has grey/black feathers with the white, and the pullet chick has salmon feathers in with white. I would expect the 4 new ones will be the same.

I finally finished my tractor for my banty favs. The ones that I theoretically dont have yet??!! But it has been a great brooder for the last couple of weeks. I just finished putting the hardware cloth and the rest of the roof on, so I turned the chicks out in it today. It's their first grass experience and of course they love it. It isn't in its correct location yet. Its sitting just off my back patio, between the patio and pool deck, so it looks like there is a bunch of clutter around. For all of you carpenters, I know it isnt perfect, ie., the off kilter left corner in the second picture that I didn't notice until it was too late to fix it, but considering it's my first big project by myself and I had NO help, I think I did a pretty good job. In this first pic you can see where I have had a fan to pull hot air out of the coop part. This area is covered in hardware cloth but I have a wood panel that I can fasten in to block cold air in the winter time.

and of course a pic of the chicks enjoying themselves. A colorful group of orps, australorps, mutts, 2 javas, a lonely delaware, and a lonely fav cockerell.

WOW! that is really nice! and how convient to roll it around where you want!...hhmmmm...might have to get after hubby to do some remodeling project?:lol

tempermentwise do you think its possible to house 2 roos with 4 hens? i want to keep a "backup" rooster (i have never seen them for sale in my area, so not easy to replace should one kick it).

thx for the reply, im growing this group out together (from chicks), and have had good success doing this with other breeds, so ill give it a try

worst case i have to have one roo in his own pen.

thanks ya'll. You can kind of see in my first pic over in the back L corner part of my other one like it that was built for me and specifically for my orps. Of course it is a bit bigger for my buff orps. I used it as a guif=de for mine and made some modifications. My favs one is 6'X8' and should have enough sf for a roo and 4 hens. My orp one is 6x11 and was made for a roo and 2 hens but with more room to roam I may could get away with a 3rd hen, but not a priority. My next plan is to fence an area off and have each of these open into it so they can have a bigger pen to roam for a few hours a day per each breed group.
