Are any of those black chicks you have now out of him. I wouldn't rush out and get another roo right now if you don't plan on breeding anymore this year. See what you get out of the chicks.

If I remember right, David only got one black hen off of me. To get true black, I would only get one that is out of true black stock.

So to get true black I need birds from a blackxblack male? I think your the only one with a true black line right? The hen I have is from true black line correct. Maybe I will just stick with blues and blacks.

He said he had one black hen, but didn't mention parentage. He also has 2 black cockerels but thought they were from the blue pair, which pair (his or mine) I'm not sure.

Could it have bonked it's head? I had one a month ago with wry neck. His head was tipped sideways and he'd spin in circles. He also recovered on his own in a week.

Thank you for the replies

Entirely possible-they all freaked & ran around when I moved them from the small brooder. It's calmer this morning, but still cocks it's head funny at times, like one ear is plugged (or it's hearing voices

). Since it came on so quick I hope for the best. I gave some arnica last night to help with swelling, on the off chance it did get a head bonk. It is worse when excited, so I'm leaving it alone.

Oh no I'm sorry to hear that! He was a handsome guy.
My "Buffington" roo... the 'Pullet Breeder" is awfully hostile; he attacks me through the wire if I walk by, or, heaven forbid, feed him!. I have held him to work it out, and he's fine on my lap, but as soon as he's down he's after me. If he attacks DH he'll be dead.
I'm praying he gives me beautiful & friendly daughters, and one son. I had entered him in our fair, but they don't allow 'mean birds', and I wouldn't want the public exposed to him (and vice versa), so now that I've pulled him, I'm going to trim his muffs (right term?) to see if anything changes.

How genetic is the attack factor?

Thanks,
Laurie

I have to admit Faverolles are quite addicting, and this hobby is ALOT cheaper than showing horses...lol...so no complaints from the hubby ..(yet)..lol

My husband said exactly the same thing! "Why didn't you get a chicken addiction years ago - they are way cheaper than horse shows!"

I don't know where he would of gotten the cockerels from. Unless they are really young. Your cockerel is out of his 2 he has from me. The hen is a litter mate of his hen.

Leisha, I got 3 additional cockerels off of you that my guess were hatched around March.?.

On another note, I lost 5 chickens, one duck, and one half grown goose to coons in about a 24 hour time period. I went outside today and spotted one coon in a tree. With any luck, I can ask tomorrow on here, if anybody would like a coonskin cap.

These would be the siblings of the splash pullets correct?
